I closed my eyes, and I pressed my lips into a thin line because I knew that was what he was thinking, even though I wasn't able to read his mind just like he wasn't able to read mine. My whole body was tense, and my heart skipped a beat before it started to pound hard and fast in my chest.
Bryson hesitated before he looked at the car and then he looked at Ren, pressing his lips into a thin line. "How long are you going to be staying?" he asked and held my bag out to him so that he could take it from him. "Can you make sure that she stays safe?"
Ren scoffed a laugh and rolled his eyes, pressing his lips into a thin line. "I will make sure that she will stay safe," he said coldly and took the bag from him. "She will always stay safe while she is under my care. You have my word."
Bryson bit back a small sigh of relief and slowly nodded. "Ok, thank you," he said before he cleared his throat. "Keep us updated?" he asked and raised an eyebrow in question while he studied the male before him. "Please? Dad's..." He sighed and shook his head, moving a hand through his hair and across his face. "Dad's been worried about her..."
The hair on the back of my neck stood at attention, and I couldn't help but grow tense and still...
It sounded like they knew each other and had talked to each other before I "introduced" them...
My heart skipped a beat before it started to pound hard and fast in my chest. I pressed my lips into a thin line while I kept my eyes closed and bit back a tired sigh, waiting for them to finish their conversation so that Ren could take me wherever it was he wanted to take me to talk.
Oh, Goddess, protect me...
Ren turned to look at me before he looked at Bryson. "I do not know how to answer that question, Bryson," he said coldly while he tucked his head closer to his chest before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "I will see what I can do, but I can not give you a direct answer."
Bryson bit back a tired sigh and slowly nodded, pursing his lips in annoyance. "Ok," he said before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Well, I will let you go ahead and go," he said while he slowly bowed his head. "Keep her safe?" he asked and raised his eyebrow in question while he studied the male in front of me.
"I will do my best," Ren said and slowly nodded before he cleared his throat and shifted on his feet. "Excuse me."
And with that, and without another word, Ren walked around the car until he was on the other side of his car where I was waiting for him with eyes closed and tried to pretend that I was asleep, even though we all knew that I wasn't.
Oh, Goddess, keep me safe...
Please because I need the help now as much as I have needed in the past...
***
Ren opened the car door and slid into the car, placing my bag into the back seat. He bit back a tired sigh and moved a hand through his hair and across his face. He cleared his throat and shifted in his seat before he glanced at me from the corner of his eye.
I didn't say a word and kept still, pretending to be asleep while my stomach growled in hunger. My heart continued to pound hard and fast in my chest while I waited for the boy, well man, beside me to say something, anything to break the silence that happened between the two of us.
However, Ren did not say a word and only closed the door before he put on his seatbelt and started the carn. He glanced at me from the corner of his eye before he started to drive the car toward where it was that he wanted to go.
Finally, he sighed and shook his head, clearing his throat while he tapped his finger on the steering wheel. "Go ahead and put your seatbelt on, Cass," he said and glanced at me from the corner of his eye. "Also, open your eyes because I know that you are not asleep."
