The Crown of Patience

For years I've waited to be found,

While this silence echoes round.

Waiting for that gaze to flick my way,

Once upon a time, one day.

Shadows spread across the grass,

As I wait for dusk to pass.

Creatures of black and creatures of white,

Keep me company through the night.

Silhouettes dance through the trees,

While I wait for him to see.

I sit and watch the scenes play out,

As the darkness starts to scream and shout.

They play all day, they dance all night,

Torturing me with their sight.

Can he not see I'm waiting to be found?

As I sit and the shadows surround.

I lie here while the shadows coil,

And the thorns spread across the soil.

Carved words that he's said or done,

Scar the trees till the dawning sun.

Green blades envelope me in embrace,

And skeletal branches try to hide my face.

Feebly protecting my broken soul,

As the dark becomes black as coal.

He glimpses through the darkened tree,

Then smiles and waves at me.

Twitch of the lips, raise a hand and silently beseech,

To get out of this place just beyond his reach.

For years I've waited to be found,

While this longing echoes round.

One day soon, perhaps, maybe,

He'll open his eyes and see,

That I've been waiting a long time for him to find me.
