It was as if I got hit by a truck when I finally understood the situation at hand; the rogue leader was in front of me. Full flesh and bone. My body jerked up and I crouched down, ready to sprint when I needed to, my complete attention on his stance awaiting him to pounce, but that never happened. He just leaned against a tree, arms cross, watching me. His speculating eyes taking me in inch by inch, from top to bottom as if he were taking it to memory. Strange....
A hand grabbed my shoulder and I flinched back but soon was comforted by it. Looking at the hand, it belonged to Caden. He had on a cautious look but also one that seemed to edge me further towards the man. He seemed to be in his early twenties; young and bold.
I took a long breath and stepped forward. This is it. He wanted to meet me and he got to. Now what? His head lifted slightly yet intimidatingly. Another step. I continued to watch his posture just in case he thought of attacking however it still didn't look like he was going to. Another step. My heart thumped louder in my chest. I'm sure he could hear it...who wouldn't be afraid to meet this guy. A man who has achieved so much in such little time with barely anything, not even a pack, to support him. To be honest, if I didn't know all the stories I've been told about how terrifying rogues are, I'd probably idolize the guy. Last final step. Now I stood a foot away from the man who wanted to meet me. My head was high as I looked at the guy straight in the eyes. 'If he were going to kill me, he would've done it by now...'
'I'm not going to kill you' my eyes widen and I look at the guy in front of me but turn my head to the ground just as fast.
'That couldn't have been him. He's a rogue, he can't talk to pack members'
'No...but I can't talk to family' I stumble back and place a hand on my forehead.
"How are you doing that?" My voice just above a whisper. He pushes himself away from the tree and unfold his arms, taking a step towards me. I take an equal step back.
"Lane. My names Silos, you've probably heard of me-"
"I have. You're the 'asshole' as people call you that wants to talk to me. Now, how did you do that?" He grins and a dimple shows up to the left side of his smile.
"Yes. The asshole. I must say that this is the first time someone has said that to me face to face." He replies, ignoring my question. Something wet rolls down the side of my face. "But it's refreshing. Lane, you have no idea how long I've been wanting to meet you."
"You still didn't answer my question." He sighs and walks in my direction but I don't back away. Just as I'm thinking that he was going to walk through me, he changes courses by a few centimeters and walks directly pass me. I turn on the balls of my feet. 'Is he going to answer me? Are you going to answer me? Because I don't want to waste my voice'
"We really are alike", he chuckles, "Guess we have the same genes. Literally." My brows furrow. I open my mouth to retaliate but he turn around and speaks before I have the chance. "Everyone has a story and baggage that comes with it. Mine is a long one, so allow me to make it simpler for you. My childhood was based off of lies and rumors. I never met my parents, my real parents, didn't know if there were siblings waiting for me out there, nor fight back when I was at my weakest point. But when the king had banished me from my pack, it was all me. All real. I was sixteen at the time and found care with a group of rogues. This was after a family tragedy but not my real family. I didn't know my real family. So once my rogue family had grown and were safe from malicious people out there, I had plenty of newfound time on my hands and began my research. I found out that my biological parents were dead", his eyes seem to get watery so he turns to face the water cascade and gathers himself up for a minute before turning back around to face me, "but, I did have two siblings." He stands up and walks to me slowly. Caden still stands off to the side watching the show go down. "Both girls. Their names were Riley and Lane Palmer", I gasp and cover my mouth with my hand paying close attention, "Lane. You are my youngest sister and whether you believe it or not, I am your older brother and will care for you for as long as I live."
"That doesn't make any sense.... How is it that you can be my brother? I-I've never heard of you before. Riley never told me of you. Our parents didn't-"
"It doesn't make any sense to me either but it is what it is. I don't know why they had given me up or if they did give me up. All I know is that you and I are siblings. That is why I can talk to you through the link." I collapse onto the bolder behind me. The floor had suddenly become the most interesting thing in the world. Silos was talking to me but all I could here was the hum of it like the teacher in Peanuts the TV show. 'Wamp, wamp, wamp, wamp'
"Is that all that you wanted to say?" Still not looking at him.
"Y-yeah that was what I wanted to s-"
"Well then," I get up, "I'll be on my way."My eyes stay trained on my feet as I try and walk away. Try. Caden steps in my way and wraps his arms around me. My cheeks squish to his hard chest, but instead of pulling away I stay there feeling comfort. His hand rubs my back up and down before resting on the small of my back. He presses a kiss to my temple. "Are you okay?" He asks in a hushed tone. Am I okay...? First of all, I've just found out that Caden is my mate but not just he, Felix is as well. Both princes. And I have an older brother who happens to be the leader of the rogues. I don't think I'm fine.
"Yeah." I lie and have a hundred percent feeling that he knows I'm lying, "Just a lot to think of."I back away from him and out of the warmth of his arms. I look up at him for a final time, give him a curt nod and walk away in the same direction that Caden had brought me here by.
Men wearing armor and some already shifted wolves were lining the yard to the back of the mansion. As if ready for battle. It's been about an hour since I left Silos and Caden. Not back to the palace but to the small clearing with the log. My mind was too busy to deal with anyone at that moment. I needed time. No one disturbed me and nothing distracted me. My thoughts were the only thing surrounding me, as if I were in my own world. On my way back to the palace my head pounded with information that it physically hurt. Now I was a few meters to the edge of the forest that lined the mansion and I could see the back of Felix and Gail, both standing in front of what I assume is the Royal Guards. They were lined up, shoulder to shoulder, listening to Felix yell some commands at them. I guess that's the side I don't see of him. Oh well. He was up close and personal with a lanky looking teenager, possibly eighteen? The veins in Felix's neck were prominent and the power radiating off of him, palpable.
I step out of the shrubbery and many of the men catch a glimpse of me and they're eyes widen in shock. Some nudge the ones beside them and nod their heads in my direction. All this takes place as Felix yells at the man who I'm sure is shitting his pants. The man next to the eighteen-year-old-lanky clears his throat and tries to speak. "Umm sir..."
"Not now Conrad!" Felix goes back to yelling at the man about safety? I don't even know....
"But si-"
"Can't it wait? I'm in the middle of something here!" He all but shouts. Conrad gulps and looks at me. Felix turns his head to look at me. I blink and when my eyelids reopen, Felix's lips are on mine. My hands grabs a hold of his shoulder trying to keep him at a distance from me. I really don't need an emotional Felix on my back while my head pounds with pain. He pulls away and both of his warm hands cup my cheek as he inspects me. "Are you alright? What happened? Where were you? I've been worried about you for so long! What the hell were you thinking? Couldn't you call or mind link someone, like me?! God Lane! I was just about to send these men into search for you-" I let out a groan.
"Felix. Please stop." He stops and looks at me. "My head hurts and I just want to sleep. Please. You can yell and shout as much as you'd like later. Just not now." He was about to get mad again but I stopped him "Please." I plea softly. He sighs and nods. Scooping me up in his arms, I lean into him and close my eyes. Well this has been a long day, hasn't it?
