~Silos' Point Of View
Have you ever thought about how life started? How everything was planned out for you? How that someone out there is watching over you, possibly? Well, not everyone is watched over. Not everyone is privileged and not everyone enjoy the life they have. The rich and the poor are both not privileged. The rich get to have huge mansions, though are empty. The poor have nothing, yet make the best out of it. And I've experienced the best of both worlds. Going from a family who had given me up and foster parents that were murdered, to having two sisters and an army beneath me. I had managed to live two different lives within the pan of two years and onwards. Although, I'd be wrong to say that everything's running smoothly for me.
The impression I left to the kingdom, when demanding to meet the future queen, was a memorable one. Memorable enough to cause everyone to start asking questions-questions I don't like. And now they've come to bite me in the ass. A few days after speaking with her and telling her how we related, my men started getting... curious. And so they dug into the matter further, finding out the reason I needed to speak with her. They had come to me in clusters confronting me, questioning me.
"How do we know you aren't working for them?"
"What if this is a trap to get us all imprisoned?"
"How can we trust YOU of all people; The person related to the future queen who's mated to the heir of those who put us out here in the wild to fend for ourselves?!"
"Are you going to leave us for the dogs when you step into the light?!"
I can't say that all their questions are invalid, no, they have the right to think that. But when it starts to interfere with trainings, loyalty, family-that is when they had to stop. I called for a meeting to inform them of my intentions which are to bond with my recently-found sisters, that is all. Though, the new additions to my 'pack' had refused to believe me, not liking the idea of following someone who has connections with the royal family, and so they left.
At first it was fine, it was after all their rights. But things began getting out of hand. Those that trusted me were put on hit lists and every-other day, someone would die. This came to the people's attentions. They began to not trust me and were leaving. Families of those lost started to threaten me once I became the prime suspect of these killings. Death threats were dropped at my door, and people left me. My army of thousands had narrowed down to twenty-seven. Twenty men and seven woman, all of which trust me completely. We were given no choice but to migrate every so often.
Each day was more tiring and stressful then the others. Though, I would never show it. That'd only make my people anxious and stressed even more then what they are. My last few days were spent watching over my sisters. Both oblivious to the world around them as they spend hours at a time with each other. I had kept my distance, not because I want to, but to keep them from getting suspicious and also from being out of danger.
Though, they already have been in a multitudinous amount of assassination lists. If it weren't for my men prowling around, they'd be dead.
In front of me, Lane and Riley are huddled up on the living room couch both eating popcorn, mesmerized by the show, Arrow, which they both squeal to when Oliver Queen shows affection for Felicity. Knowing the character's names is enough proof to show that I've been watching them for a long, long time.
Rustling in the bushes makes my neck snap to the right. My knees crouch and my hands move to the front of me, ready to attack the unidentified stranger. A stick breaks and leaves move around. When the silhouette of the person appears, I launch myself forward, allowing my fist to connect with the man's jaw, receiving a satisfied pop.
"AY! YOU IDIOT! IT'S ME!" I pull away just before I'm about to deliver another punch, only to be met with the piercing eyes of non-other than Caden.
"Oops." He grunts and pushes me off of him as I chuckle at his sour mood.
He gets up and dusts his jeans off of himself and places his palms on either side of his jaw, flicking his wrist swiftly in order to pop it back into place. With that he groans in pain making me snicker more. He glares at me, "I miss the days where I could put you in your place." He places his hands on his hips while I cross my arms over my chest.
"It seems like Mr. Grumpy-Pants hasn't been getting much attention."
"Correction, no attention. I've been busy... 'Reuniting' with family. And thanks to you, I'm stuck on guard duty from the inside." What he says brings me back to reality.
"Did anything happen?" My tone no longer joking.
"No. But I have news. I over-heard my father talking to Felix. He said that he's been getting threats. Felix has been training the guards for much longer, and they're shifts have been extended. Anyone suspicious is to be killed on sight and other less suspicious are to be captured." My hand rakes through my hair, pulling at the end of the strands.
"Do you know which borders are secured at what times?"
"Twenty-four hour watch. More guards are trailing the perimeters."
"Good." He lifts a brow. "More security means more safety, which is exactly what we need in our situation." He nods stiffly. I narrow my eyes at him.
"What's wrong?" He itches his temple.
"Due to the increase of the guards, well, Simone and Tala have been captured. They're in the waiting cells, to be prosecuted for trespassing." I grunt and punch a close-by tree, cracking it in half but not all the way.
"Is there a way to get them out?" My voice trails off. Caden stays quiet for a few seconds.
"Not unless I want to be kicked out. Which I don't want." I slam my fist into the tree, enlarging the crack and yelling a few profanities.
I promised that I'd keep them from getting in trouble with these people and I've backed out of that promise.
"I, Silos Palmer, devote all I have into keeping those closest to me, my people, from being in danger. In return for loyalty and trust. Giving myself for the benefit of others, thus I state that through every crook and cranny we go through together, as a family, I'll stand by you and not ahead. We are one, and so we will act like one..."
"That was a rhetorical question. And I never said you." His hands fall limp at his sides before he gestures them all around as he speaks.
"Hold on, you, the leader of the rogues, plan on going in there to free two people."
"Not to free them. More like...make allies." He blinks.
"You're planning on working with those people?" he points at the palace behind him, "And you think that they'll be glad to walk hand-in-hand with you?" He starts to laugh loudly. I slap his forearm in warning to keep his voice low. When he finally settles down, he continues, "You really are crazy." I roll my eyes.
"Let's go."
~Felix's Point Of View
Her long brown hair fall off the side of the couch, water droplets falling out of it from her shower earlier. Her eyes are fixated on the projection in front of her, of Arrow. Her sister just as hypnotized by the series. I'd managed to catch the 'woos' and 'awes' that come out of their lips when they're favorite character comes on and I of course growl softly. She should only be making those sounds for me. Are you serious?! Snap out of it! He's an ACTOR.
Lane has no idea that I'm watching her right now, nor does her sister for they are too entranced in the show to tell. Just watching her makes me feel giddy.
A smile forms on my lips. My girl. The girl that'll be mine in just a few days at The Ceremony. My mother has been going wild with planning, trying to make sure everything is perfect. I made sure to have her do all the work, I wouldn't want Lane to be under any stress before the time of the Ceremony. All will be perfect. I'll be wearing my sash with my medals, and her in a deep purple floor length dress. All I want is for her to accept me. She will. She must.
Nervousness creeps around the corner for me, it isn't safe anymore though.
My smile fades when I recall the death threats I've been getting recently towards her from anonymous people. All craving her blood. But that will definitely not happen while I'm alive and breathing. I've beefed up the guards and training, patrol and security in fine details. The palace is under twenty-four hour surveillance. We've managed to catch two rogues that were scoping the garden.
A tap on my shoulder gets my attention. Turning my head halfway, I see a fraction of Rose's face. "What is it?" I turn back to watch my beautiful mate cuddle into her sister.
"Sir, there are..." she pauses, "people here to see you."
"Tell them I'm busy." I brush her off, eyes on every motion coming from in front of me.
Though, she goes on, being a nuisance,"Your highness, I don't think--" Her words get cut off by a gruff voice that doesn't waver.
"You don't have a choice unless you're capable of holding back an ambush." Anger pulses within me at the man speaking to me with such tone, but I control it when I hear he has knowledge of an ambush.
Turning around, my eyes land on a lean man with brown hair and grey eyes, behind him a group of men and woman. Surrounding them is a group of guards, not. Doing. Anything. Idiots. A loud snarl escapes my lips at the familiarity of this-this child. My back tenses and I elongate my claws 'til they are a sharp weapon. He doesn't back down though. "Is that a threat, Silos?" I spit out his name in disgust, never wanting to say it again.
"No, it's a warning. And I'm not the enemy here. I have a preposition; a deal."
I cut in rapidly, "We don't make deals with traitors." He growls lowly at my judgement, but calms down when a woman with blonde hair puts a hand on his shoulder.
"Trust me, we don't make deals with crooks, either. But this is a one-time thing, for the sake of others." His eyes divert behind me. I turn around to see Lane wrapped in a blanket, with a confused look on her face. When she sees Silos, she releases the pressure dawned upon her brows.
Her soft voice, like a melody, flows into my ears, "What's going on?" Using my arm I push her behind me, away from the eyes of many. I turn around so that we're chest-to-chest, and place a fake smile on my face and my hands on her forearms.
"Nothing, baby. Just go back into the room, I'm handling...things." She pushes me slightly and moves beneath my arm.
"What's happening, Silos?" The moment his name leaks from her mouth, my curiosity spikes. Turning around swiftly, I see Lane standing by him, looking up impatiently. She shifts her weight to her right leg and crosses her arms. He looks at her thoughtfully.
"You know him?" Anger evident in my voice. How does she know him?!
Before she can answer, the ugly mutt does, "Yes, she does. She's my sister." Just like that, my eyes are wide and it's as if my wolf's irate side explodes to the surface. My hands claws at my head as I process this information. My arms lean against the wall, head in the gap between them. The kingdom's enemy is my mate's brother. How ironic, no? Pushing myself off the wall, I stride to the hallway. "Follow me. Let's talk in private."
~I pace my office, from one side to the other, not pausing for a second. These last thirty minutes have been awfully slow. Lane had just spent this time explaining to me when, where and how her and Silos relate with the help of her...brother. Halfway through this conversation Caden walks in thinking that since everything is up and out there that it'd be great to say that he is sort of like the second in command of the rogues. Just PERFECT. My own flesh and blood, dismissing the feud between us, is on the other side.
But after finding that out, Silos drops the bomb on me and shocks Lane, by sealing the deal. He explained how his people found out that they related, soon after that people started dying, around seventy he said. His people stopped trusting him and all left, except for a bundle of them, who believe that he wasn't the one behind it all. And finally, that those that have left want revenge on what he'd done-tricking them into believing he was a good leader and then having them drop dead like flies-and decided, what perfect way to do so other than killing him? Going after his siblings.
Processing this information may seem easy, but not when you have to consider the whole country. If the kingdom gets rundown by rogues, what will the people think? They'll start questioning our capabilities and the whole scenario that has happened to Silos, will happen to us.
Taking a seat, I pick up a fountain pen and begin writing on a yellow notepad. "What are you doing?" Caden's voice echoes the large office that seems far too small at the moment. I ignore him for a second as I finish writing the sentence before reading it aloud:
"Lists of things need to be done:Prepare for hunting season.Make invite list for The CeremonyMake sure that the whole country doesn't go into severe chaos within the next few days while my mate has a target on her head because of her apparent brother that couldn't seem to get a hold around his own "pack"."
The notepad falls to the desk with a sharp slap just as I jump out of my seat and give Caden my phone book. "Call every alpha, beta, or delta. Just let all of them know that there will be a battle. We're going to need everyone's help." I turn to look at Silos, "Your pack will need to contribute in this, too." And finally, Lane. I sigh, "You can just get some rest." She stands up.
"No, I want to help--"
"There's nothing to help with, Lane." She bites her lip in concentration, then looks up at me.
"Then let me train with the guards." A smirk forms and then dissipates into uncontrollable laughter.
"No, honey." Her head tilts to the side.
"And why not?" My laughter dies down, and my face goes solemn.
"I'm not risking you getting hurt." Voice completely serious, all trace of amusement gone.
"I'm a big girl and whether you like it or not, I'm helping. I've lived long enough to see the fruits and lemons of this world to know the consequences." Her head stands up high and she walks out of the room, slamming the door behind her. I let out a huff of astonishment.
"Spoken like a true queen."Vote&Comment
