"BEORN...........!" She screamed out again. (Y/n) not daring to look around as she moved through the trees, sure that she would find the pack of orcs close behind her. Feeling as though she could sense their reeking breath on the back of her neck. Not wanting to think about what the second orc had meant about what he had wanted to do to her; nor what the other was referring to, when he stated that when he was done, his fellow could have what was left; instead, she focused on avoiding the trees and the low hanging branches. Of getting herself back to the safety of Beorn's cottage, that she should never have left. Of doing all she could to stay one step ahead of the foul creatures. Her heart thundering in her chest, her legs burning, screaming at her to stop; but she wouldn't, she couldn't. The huntsman's daughter sure that she would rather be eaten by the bear than be caught by the orcs. (Y/n) pushing herself on; a small sense of relief filling her, as she broke through the tree line and saw the cottage. The expanse of grassland all that came between her and safety. Her eyes so focused on her goal, that she ignored the ground beneath her feet; her foot catching in a rut which sent her tumbling forward. Her scream filling the night air, before she came to rest on her back.

"Ya know, I like it when they put up a bit of a fight. Makes it even more fun......." (Y/n) pushing herself up onto her elbows and trying to move backwards as the orcs came towards her. Her stomach sinking as the main one grinned menacingly at her. Drool dribbling from between it sharp, yellow teeth, as he licked his lips. She screaming again, as it grabbed her leg and pulled her back towards them. She able to do nothing but close her eyes and pray to anyone or anything that may be listening, to save her from her fate.

A roar............her eyes flying open as the sound that shook her lungs, filled the air. The orc letting her go, as the bear burst through the trees. (Y/n) able to do nothing but try and make herself as small as she could, as she watched the huge black bear set upon the orcs. The vile beings screaming, themselves, as the beast threw them into the air or trampled on them. The breath catching in her throat, as the scene finally fell silent as it became obvious that not an orc was left alive. She doing her best to get to her feet, yet as she stood, she dropped back to the floor; her ankle not able to take her weight. The rut and the grip of the orc having done more damage than she had thought. (Y/n) only able to look at the bear as it slowly inched closer to her; death seeming to be an inevitability, as the moonlight glinted on the animal's teeth. Yet instead of being killed like the orcs, the bear just looked at her. Hesitantly, tentatively moving until its huge head was right in front of her; its nose nudging at her until she placed her hand in its fur. The beast's eyes looking deep into hers, as she nervously let her fingers move through the dense pelt. A gasp leaving her lips, as she finally saw something in the animals eyes.......something that she recognised.

"B........Beorn.........is........is that you.........?" She managed to ask. The bear just nudging at her again.

"You........You're the bear.............?" The huge animal sitting down in front of her.

"How.......why............?" A thousand questions going through her mind, as she and he looked at one another. (Y/n) suddenly getting a sense that he wanted to know what she was doing out there. Why she had been foolish enough to leave the cottage.

"I.....I can explain.......I just wanted to make sure that you were alright. I was worried about you being all alone out here, so I was going to find you and see if I could join you. I never expected the orcs, I am so sorry about not listening to you; maybe if I had known that......well, that you were.........oh Beorn........why didn't you tell me...........?" (Y/n) and the bear continuing to look at one another. She knowing that he couldn't answer, that he couldn't explain why he had never told her that he and the animal that had caused her to find herself in his cottage in the first place, were one and the same; but she was sure that it would all make for a very interesting conversation when he was back in his other form.

"I suppose I should get back to the cottage and leave you to do whatever it is you do. But..........." (Y/n) looking down at her leg.

"I think I twisted my ankle..........." The bear looking at the limb, before letting out a soft huff and then lowering himself to the floor. Gesturing with his head, that he wanted her to climb on his back. The huntsman's daughter steadying herself against him, before placing all her weight on her good leg and pushing herself up, then climbing atop him. Her hands carefully gripping at his fur, as he slowly rose, and they made their way back to the cottage.

                                                    >>---------------------------------------<<

The cottage was quiet as Beorn gently wrapped her ankle, after cleaning the dry blood from her skin that had come from the cuts that the orcs sharp nails had caused. (Y/n) hadn't been able to sleep once he had dropped her back at the cottage. Her mind going over what had happened, of what Beorn would say once he got home. Though she had never expected to hear what he had told her; it not the fact that yes, he was the bear, that he was a skin changer, that had caused her distress, but what he had told her afterwards about him being the only one left. How he and his people had been taken, kept chained and shackled by the orcs; killed for pleasure and sport. That he alone had been able to escape the attacks by a pale orc named Azog, and gone into hiding, most certainly had. (Y/n) having to push tears away, as she heard the pain in his voice. She wanting to do nothing more than hold him, to comfort him.

"Why........why did you not tell me this sooner, Beorn...........?" She questioned. Beorn letting out a snort, before he got to his feet; about to move away but finding a small hand grip onto his.

"Please, Beorn. Tell me.............." The large man sighing before taking a seat next to her. He aware that what he was about to say, to confess, would change everything between them.

"I........I didn't tell ya, because..........I didn't want ta lose ya. It was the bear that scared ya in the first place. I saw the fear in ya eyes when ya spoke of it; and I thought if I told ya, if I explained that the bear was me, ya wouldn't want ta stay, and I would be alone again. You've made my house, a home; made me smile.......laugh. I've come ta care for ya.......more than care.....I love ya, little mouse............." Beorn admitted. (Y/n)'s eyes growing wide. Beorn.......big, brave, sweet and caring Beorn, loved her. Her smile become as wide as her eyes; she taking a deep breath before looking at her small hand that was still in his, and then to his face.

"Beorn............" The skin changer slowly turning to look at her. His brows furrowing slightly, as he saw her smile. She gesturing with her finger for him to move closer before she suddenly placed her lips to his.

"I love you too..........."
