Why Settle For Less?

She looked at him, willing him to say the words. Willing him to say he'll stay and love her right this time. That there'll no longer be unanswered texts and missed anniversaries, lipstick stains on his shirt and women's perfume on his hair. She wanted, no, needed him to say it'll be right this time. But even as she thought it, she knew. There is a demon in him that no forgiveness and acceptance of hers can heal. No matter how long at night she stays up to wait for him, how many breakfasts in bed she makes, how many times she tells him she loves him more than anything, no amount of her love will make him say, "I'll change and do it right this time." No. And even if she still loves him to the moon and back, as he stared at her with eyes that never really looked at her too long and spoke to her as much, she knew he'll never deserve her love. So she said, "Go."
