Kayley's POV

I sat straight up as the nurse left the room.

"Niall-" I choked out. I couldn't say anything more because I started sobbing. He hugged me and started rubbing my bare back.

"It's okay," he cooed. "Everything will be okay. Don't cry. Please don't cry." I couldn't help but cry even more when he said that. I felt a tear hit my back and immediately knew he was crying also.

A million thoughts were running through my mind. What if the baby died inside me? What would they do if that happened? What-

The nurse came back in with a male doctor in a white lab coat. I immediately wanted to cover myself up for obvious reasons, but I resisted the urge. He was here to help.

"Okay, Ms..." he hinted. His French accent was very distinguishable. I love French accents. I just love Paris. I just love France.

"Horan," I answered.

"Okay, Ms. Horan, please lay back," he instructed me. I did as I was told. I still had tears streaming down my face, but the sobs had stopped. He took the nurse's stethoscope and put them in his ears. He placed the metal end on my stomach and moved it around. When his eyebrows started moving closer together, I knew that couldn't be a good sign.

He sighed and took the pieces out of his ears. "Ms. Horan, would you cough for me?" I coughed, and he put the stethoscope back on my stomach.

"Nope," he said. "Still not hearing anything." My throat tightened up. "Could you, ya know... pretend like you were about to... ya know... defecate?" he asked awkwardly. For a second, I thought he said suffocate. Oops. I grunted as hard and fast as I could. He put the stethoscope back on my stomach for the third time with his eyebrows knitted together.

"Mhm," he muttered as he moved it around. "Mhmmmmm..." He moved it toward my lower abdomen. His eyebrows became uncreased and he smiled.

He took the pieces of plastic out of his ears, and told me and Niall, "All it had to do was shift a little. It was hidden behind the umbilical cord." Tears flooded my eyes again, but this time, they were tears of joy. I blinked them back and looked at Niall. His head was facing down, and he had his eyes closed. After watching him for a couple seconds, he touched his forehead, chest, left shoulder and right shoulder. I couldn't help but laugh.

"Would you like to listen?" the doctor asked. I nodded my head vigorously. He handed me the stethoscope and I shoved the plastic bits in my ears. I watched as he moved the metal part to where he previously had it. I heard a faint, but steady, thump-thump, thump-thump. I gasped and started crying again.

"That's my baby," I whispered.

Niall gasped. "I WANNA LISTEN!" he scream-whispered. I took the stethoscope out of my ears and handed them to Niall. He waited patiently for the doctor to put the metal thing on the right place again.

"Oh!" he gasped. "Oh! Oh! Ohhhhh my gosh! Oh my gosh!" He pulled the ear things out of his ears and handed them to me. I looked at him like he had three heads as he started crying.

"Niall, what's your problem?" I asked.

He pointed at my stomach and whispered, "I heard its heartbeat!"

"We all did," I laughed.

The doctor took over for the rest of the appointment since he was already in there. Also, he had nothing else to do. It went pretty well after the heartbeat scare.

After we got to leave, Niall took me to get some food. It was a little French bistro. It was really cute! I got a crescent roll sandwich. It had ham, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and a whole bunch of other stuff I liked on it. I also got a side of macaroni and cheese. Niall got the same. When we sat down to eat, I felt like I had to pee. I excused myself and went to the bathroom.
