I glanced at my watch for what felt like the hundredth time. 9:30. I look up at the sky, the sky was covered with grey clouds indicating a heavy rain. Seriously the day I decided to propose is the day when rain decided to pour?. I questioned the universe.
Hannah would be here in half an hour. I took a deep breath, surveying the garden one last time. The fairy lights twinkled like stars, casting a magical glow over the entire setting. The food, the flowers, everything was perfect.
But despite the serene atmosphere, my stomach was a knot of nerves. I had no idea what kind of proposal Hannah would want. Should I have asked Karlie for hints? No, I decided. If Karlie got even a whiff of the proposal, she'd spill the beans to Hannah in a heartbeat. I wanted this to be a surprise, something Hannah would never see coming.
So I'd gone with my gut, hoping that Hannah would love the romantic setup I'd created. But what if she didn't? What if she rejected me? My mind began to spiral with worst-case scenarios. What if she laughed in my face? What if she didn't feel the same way?
I shook my head, pushing aside the doubts. I couldn't let fear hold me back. I had to tell Hannah how I felt, no matter the risk. Because the truth was, whenever I saw her, my thoughts weren't exactly friendly. They were filled with longing, with desire, with love.
I took another deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come.
After 20 minutes I checked my watch again 9:50 it reads. Where was Hannah? I scanned the garden, my eyes straining to see any sign of her. And then, I saw a shadowy figure emerging from the darkness.
My heart skipped a beat as I thought it was Hannah, but as the figure stepped into the light, I realized it was a girl with long hair. Definitely not Hannah. My mind racing, I wondered who it could be and what she was doing here.
It only took a few seconds to recognize the girl. Sophia. What was she doing here? How did she even know about this place? A million questions swirled in my head as I waited for her to approach me.
Sophia sauntered up to me, her eyes scanning the garden with a venomous glint. "What are you preparing for, Noah?" she asked, her voice dripping with malice.
I narrowed my eyes. "It's none of your business."
Sophia laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "No greetings at all? That girl has really made you rude, hasn't she?"
My anger flared, and I frowned. "I've told you a hundred times, Sophia don't talk about Hannah like that."
Sophia's expression turned sulky, and she grasped my hand. "Why are you ignoring me because of her? Why can't we just be like before?" Her voice cracked, and tears welled up in her eyes. "Why are you dumping me for that...that...bitch Hannah?"
