everything in due time

THE REST OF THE DAY FELT LIKE COMPLETE DEJA VU.

Claire was sure that her spending time with Ben would feel awkward and a little uncomfortable but she was wrong.

So very wrong.

Instead she felt the most at peace she'd felt since their breakup. They spent the whole day together wandering the kingdom and doing some much needed catching up (with an unspoken agreement to avoid all conversation around the villain kids, mainly Mal).

The pair spent their day going from shop to shop, bakery to bakery, florist to florist and all were happy to help their princess and the king of Auradon.

It was safe to say that they got loads of unnecessary free samples.

They walked together down the street, their hands brushing against each other each time their arms swayed as they moved.

As the neared a grand fountain the pathway grew more crowded causing Ben and Claire to be bushed up against each other more than intended.

Suddenly Claire was stoped by a pull on the bottom of her dress for behind.

A young boy with chalk covered hands was tugging on her pearl white dress. Sheepishly he asks, "Princess Claire can you help me?"

"Of course I can. What do you need help with?" Claire smiles kindly not minding the mess he has just made on her sundress.

"Drawing a dragon." He points towards a group of children drawing numerous things onto the pavement. Amongst them is a decently half draw dragon.

"It looks amazing from here."

The boy thanked her happily smiling at the princess compliment. As the pair walked away from Ben who started to train after them, the blonde asked the little boy. "What's your name dear?"

"Tommy."

"Well it's nice to meet you Tommy. I'm Claire."

"I know that." He laughed. "You're my princess."

Ben huffed from behind.

Once they reached the drawing Tommy put Claire to work sharing the vision and assigning her a colour.

Ben hovered over the hard working pair. "Do you want me help too, Tommy?"

"Nope." He didn't look away from his work as he stated rather bluntly. Claire broke into a fit looking to Ben see his face full of offence which only made her laugh more. She didn't be flatted when Ben gave her a look of offence too.

Behind Ben another little boy looked up. He offers, "you can help me King Ben!"

Which Ben gladly did.

A younger girl who Claire knew as one of the girls who braided her hair earlier, Mavis got Claire to help her too once she finished helping Tommy with his dragon.

The pair spent their evening drawing bundles and bundles of flowers. Claire drew sundrops when Lila drew deep red roses. At a point the two flowers stems got intertwined, not that ether minded.

Ben still drew with the younger boy from earlier who Claire learned was named Benjamin ironically enough. Together the worked on drawing a sea creature which was turning out rather hideously.

Claire couldn't tell if it was because they were both amateurs at drawing or because Ben was awfully distracted looking up to glance at Claire every few seconds.

At some point during that time while Ben watched from a distance he too got dragged into drawing with a little boy. By the looks of it they were drawing a rather hideous sea creature with obnoxious tentacles.

By the time Claire and Ben could get away — their parents came to drag them away to eat dinner, it was nearly sunset. The sun just about the descent into the horizon.

The pair desided to spend their last moment of sunlight in the library. Laying on the ground in remaining sunlight that shun through the grand stained glass window.

When the finished it was dark outside, the sun completely disappeared. The only thing eliminating their path back was the lanterns and shop windows.

Deciding to call it a night Ben walked Claire back to the castle and as they neared the entrance of the castle Ben lightly grabbed her wrist stopping her.

"For you, my lady." Ben says as he reveals a paper bouquet of flowers he had held behind his back.

On the way back to the entrance of the castle Ben had managed to buy a bouquet of purple flowers without Claire noticing.

Or at least she never vocalized knowing.

"They're gorgeous. Thank you Ben," she smiles taking a step towards him.

"Anything for you," he swears.

Stepping closer Claire rises to her tiptoes and plants a kiss on Ben rosy cheek. She took the flowers from him as she back away.

Out of all the flowers he'd given her so far over the summer Claire could already tell that these particular flowers to were her favourite.

"Good night, Claire." With that Ben began to walk away back down the still ever bustling street.

"Ben."

Claire call after him had him pivoting in his tracks back towards her.

"Yes?"

"Maybe we could see each other again tomorrow?"

"Of course," Ben said trying to keep his cool. "Good night, Claire-bear."

"Good night, Benji."
