Chapter #28
May 22nd 2023
Scarlett’s POV

I’ve been sitting in this stupid waiting room for what feels like forever. My mom and siblings are here too. Chris is driving from Boston and should be here soon. “Scarlett, I just heard what do you need?” Kate asks, kneeling in front of me. “My wife.” With those two words I breakdown. “She’s supposed to be safe here! I still haven’t been told what happened all I know is she collapsed in Central Park while on her run.” I ramble. “Scarlett, it's all over the news.” Kate says carefully. “What’s all over the news?” I ask and Kate pulls out her phone and shows me a video of Louri being ambushed by the paparazzi blaming her for Walter and Hendricks deaths. “Oh God Kate.” I cry into her shoulder as she turns off her phone, putting it back in her pocket.

Chris’s POV
I storm into the hospital, my blood boiling at the image of my baby sister collapsing on repeat. I watched on my TV and the second she fell to the ground unconscious I was up and getting into my truck to drive up to New York. I called Hunter to ask him what hospital I needed to go to and when he told me I just hung up not wanting to take my anger/fear out on him. I spot Scarlett sobbing on Kate's shoulder causing my heart to break even more. “Chris dear.” Melanie says pulling me into a hug and I let myself cry in her arms. “Is she alive?” A question I’ve asked too many times in my life. “She’s in surgery. Sherman and Mildred are on their way. The kids don’t know yet we are waiting till we know more before telling them. Elizabeth and Robbie are making sure the kids don’t watch any live TV.” She fills me in on everything. “I watched it Mel, I watched as they yelled those lies, as she was clutching her chest before she collapsed. I can’t lose my baby sister Melanie, I just can’t.” I cry. “We all know that woman is too stubborn to die.” She says, making me softly chuckle. “Family of Louri Evans-Johansson?” A doctor calls out and Scarlett shoots out of her chair. “I’m her wife, how is she?” Scarlett asks. “I’m Dr. Owen Hunt, her surgeon. She’s awake and being taken to a room. Your wife suffered a heart attack. It seems that stress mixed with previous injuries to her body caused it. There was a large amount of scar tissue near her aorta. This made it hard for the artery to function properly. We’ve removed the scar tissue and I am already seeing improvement in her vitals.” He says. “Can we see her?” I ask. “Yes of course come with me.” Dr. Hunt says.

Louri’s POV
“Will you quit it? I’m not a pincushion. Either put the IV in right or I’ll do it myself.” I say to the clearly young nurse. He must have just graduated, he’s that young. “Oh fuck it just give it to me!” I growl. “Ma’am I can’t do that please just stay still.” He says softly and I just grumble. I hear Scarlett’s voice come from the doorway. “Just do what he says.” My head snaps over in her direction and see her tear stained eyes. “Yes ma’am.” I say before I am nearly crushed by my brother only for Scarlett to yell at him to be careful since I just had surgery. “Awe big tough Captain America is a softy.” I tease. “Shut up and accept the damn hug you ass.” He says and I can tell from his voice that he’s been crying. “All done Ma’am if you need anything just press the button and someone will come.” The young nurse says and I nod. “I love you but get off my wife.” Scarlett says sternly and Chris let’s me go and Scarlett wastes no time crawling into the small space next to me in the bed clinging to my arm since it’s not the one with the IV. “You gave us one hell of a scare young lady.” Melanie says in an almost scolding tone. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to scare you guys. You guys know I did everything to save them right?” I ask with tears in my eyes. “I tried, I really did.” I say breaking down. “Louri, look at me.” Scarlett says but I can’t bring myself to look at her. “LOOK AT ME MARINE!” She orders, causing me to look her in the eye. “You are not to blame for their deaths. What the paps said was bullshit, we all know that.” She says softly but sternly. “She’s right, Louri.” Chris says as the rest nod in agreement. “I’ll call Lizzie and update her. Can she tell the kids?” Melanie says. “Now that we know Louri will be ok, yes.” Scarlett tells her. “WHERE’S MY BABY!!!” We hear Mama Mildred shout. “Oh sweetie, how are you feeling?” Mama asks. “My chest hurts a little but the morphine is helping.” I tell her. “Good now, don't you ever scare me like that.” She says while smacking the back of my head. “Dr. Hunt said that you had a lot of scar tissue around your aorta and that mixed with the stress the paps caused is why you had the heart attack.” Scarlett says. “Hunt? Did he say his first name?” I ask. “I think it was Owen.” Chris says. “Doctor Owen Hunt!” I shout. “Yes, do you know him?” Scarlett asks. “Yeah he was an army Doctor at a M*A*S*H he treated my very first injury. I was just a Sargent at the time. He also taught me how to do stitches properly.” I say shocked. “Didn’t think you’d remember me. But when I saw that scar on your torso I recognized my work.” Owen says walking in with my chart. “But you’re a trauma surgeon.” I say confused. “You know M*A*S*H doctors can do it all. But yes normally I stick to trauma but my wife Dr. Christina Yang the attending cardiac surgeon is in Seattle visiting a friend so you got me.” He says.
