"I would like to welcome you all on your first semester here at Stanford. As some of you may know, I am the head of this college - more precisely, the principal. My name is Gail Kennedy and I, as well as your designated student counsellor, will guide you through your next four years here. We look forward to be the ones to send you off on your journey in education"

Most of the people in the auditorium looked bored as can be. Most of us already knew this information through the sheet we got with our acceptance letter. But nonetheless, the welcome speech was mandatory so trying to skip it was practically impossible, considering they had assigned guards to check that each student had attended. Though I am sure that some people snuck past that.

lucky you.

Scanning the room, I did not recognize one person. I wondered where Avery had gone off to. Before leaving the dorm room I noticed her packing a bag, as if she was heading somewhere. I did not ask her where she was going because, who am i to question her like that? She assured me that she would find a way past the guards, but seeing the heavily guarded walls, I doubted that she would be able to sneak in without getting caught by a few of them on her way. Having perfect attendance wasn't really a priority of mine, so i could easily have skipped this welcome without having an ounce of guilt. The only problem is, that I don't know anyone. So instead of coming off as a complete loser who skips classes by myself, I decided on attending.

My mind drifted off to unimaginable scenarios where i, somehow, could escape this boring ass-

In that instant moment a guard looked at me strictly, placing his index finger on his mouth and then proceeded to point at the principal, who still was babbling on about the importance of a college degree. His action signalized for me to stay quiet and focused. I instantly composed myself and turned my gaze towards Mrs. Kennedy.

"Now students, we have a range of talented teachers who have been waiting to finally meet you, and put faces on the students they have assigned in their class. We have teachers who have been teaching here at Stanford for over 20 years - as well as teachers who have their first day today. So I want you all to embrace the old ones, and welcome the new. "

A line of teachers formed in front of the podium. A majority of them were old, and I figured those were the ones who had been teaching for 20 years. Then I proceeded to glance towards the end of the line where one caught my eye. He seemed rather young, considering he was a teacher. He was actually quite striking, and for some reason, my eyes couldn't seem to look away from him. I sighed to myself; it hadn't even been a day and I was already fascinated by a guy.

what a horror, - if you ask my loving mother.

"Now for the rest of the day, you will attend various workshops where you will be introduced to the subjects you will be having this year, as well as the teachers you will be accompanied by. The schedule is personally designed for you, and informs where the workshops take place - you can find these on the doors of your dorms. That's thanks to our student council consisting of students on their second year here at Stanford. They have spent hours preparing for this day, so we should all thank them for their commitment and hard work. As of now, return to your dorms and head to the workshops where your teachers will be waiting for you"
