Thea sat behind the gas station counter watching the cars drive past. She was trying to make sense if their was any pattern, if a blue car must be followed by a red. Already knowing there was no pattern that everything was random. 'You can't control the sequence of life' her mom once told her after their pet goldfish Dave died.

The day was quiet, Nigel and his tattooed friend were trying to fix the stations leaking roof. Leaving Thea to manage the till which usually never bothered her but today it was. She was watching the cars, reading number plates, trying to distract herself. Not even a suspicious van could take her thoughts away from the argument with Zack.

Resting her head on her hands, Thea shut her stinging eyes for a moment. It had been two days since Jack found her walking alone and dropped her back home. She hadn't slept in those days, every night she reminded herself of the stupid words she said. Wondering why the sequence of life was such a bitch.

She wanted to scream because nothing in her life ever went to plan. What happened to growing up and making her parents proud? She used to dream of running a plant nursery with her little sister but now that dream's shattered.Instead she's working at a gas station. Her parents think she's dead, her sisters actually dead. It's like Donna's always a step ahead. All those years after escaping from that old house she was never free.

"Hun, you're meant to be working not dreaming of macho man." Nigel cut in, making her eyes dart up to the man standing in pink overalls, holding a bucket. She had no clue when he had got there, seeing the store's bell got stolen a few days back.

"I will when you stop dreaming about Rian and that tattooed guy." She retaliated. Still not knowing the name of the mysterious guy who had gotten her bosses attention.

"Well fair enough." He said pausing before leaning against the counter "Having boy trouble?"

"Something like that" She mumbled, staring blankly at the store's far wall.

"Is Macho man not everything you thought he would be?" Nigel asked. Picking up the fireman calendar the store had recently stocked for some unknown reason.

"We had an argument." Thea replies, not even bothering to tell Nigel that Macho Man's name was actually Zack. For some reason even mentioning Zack's name was hard, every time she went to say it a lump formed in her throat.

"Dump him, his best friend's way hotter. Ya know the one who was pumping gas." He cuts in, still flicking through the calendar. Probably checking out more than the date.

"I don't know Nigel, I'm not even sure if we're a thing after that." She continues, rubbing her eye and yawning.

"Good, you can do better. Hun you gotta raise your standards." He continues, smiling proudly at his own advice.

"Says the one who went home with a cougar last week" She recalled, smiling Nigel.

"Someones got to make the money to run the place. Especially when the workers fall asleep at the till." He replies, placing the calendar neatly on it's shelf .

" I didn't fall asleep" Thea protested, shaking the pins and needles away from her arm.

"Hun, your shift was over an hour ago. Aria's just sorting stuff out in the back." He continued, worried for his friend who looked restless and broken.

"Do you want me to make up for the time?" She asks, feeling guilty for falling asleep.

"Go home. Maybe later if you get me Gas pumping boy's number I'll forget you." Nigel advised.
