| Kyoya's POV
I walked out of the bathroom after taking a shower. Putting down my glasses, I surveyed the small room I had booked. An amateur job at bed-making, tacky wallpaper peeling at the corners, an old wooden bed frame, and poorly decorated walls surrounded me. It was all rather pathetic.
It's even tackier than I imagined, I thought, a faint smirk playing at the corners of my mouth, though the amusement was fleeting.
I sat down on the bed, the mattress sagging beneath me, and closed my eyes, rubbing the towel on my damp hair. The silence felt both oppressive and oddly comforting.
Still… it’s strangely cozy, I mused as the image of Mr. Fujioka's brown eyes and maroon hair popped into my mind. It was peculiar how often he invaded my thoughts, I had thought it was simply amusement, but.. remembering him be so friendly with Mori-senpai and Kaoru... I unconsciously felt irritated.
I can deny it all I want, but there's no doubt I...
A buzz sounded from my phone, bringing me back from my thoughts. I glanced at the screen, seeing unnecessary messages from that annoyingly persistent king about another ridiculous plan. I turned the phone off.
Dressing in silence, I felt a pull toward the stairs. Mr. Fujioka was downstairs, likely preoccupied with whatever trivial matters he found so captivating. I couldn’t quite place why I wanted to see him, but the thought lingered—an inexplicable curiosity that nagged at me to go.
I grabbed my glasses and headed downstairs, noticing there were only a few lights left on. I figured he had already closed the pension. I pulled a chair by the counter to sit down, watching him wash the dishes. I smirked and laid my head in the palm of my hand.
"Enjoying the solitude?" I asked, letting my smirk widen as I broke the silence.
“More like enjoying the peace before the storm,” he shot back almost instantly. The spark in his eyes made me chuckle, my smirk turning into an amused grin.
“Storm? I thought you loved the chaos. After all, it’s not every day you get to play the role of the responsible one.” I replied back as I continue the small banter we had.
“Responsible? Please, I’d rather be in a luxury villa with a good book than stuck here washing your dishes,” he retorted, his eyes scanning me with a raised eyebrow, a playful challenge lingering in the air.
I feigned a mock-shock expression, enjoying the back-and-forth far too much.
“Oh, but who else would keep me entertained? I need someone to keep me on my toes.”
“Entertained? More like you’re here to critique my dishwashing skills,” he retorts, rolling his eyes. “I’m sure you have better things to do than supervise my cleaning routine.”
I do, but this is way more fun.. I thought, still smirking.
“Actually, I find your frustration quite amusing,” I said, my eyes glinting with mischief. “It’s like watching a cat try to catch a laser pointer.”
Seeing him smirk a little bit, I felt that fluttering feeling once more.
“At least I’m not the one who needs a laser pointer to find my way out of a conversation.” he said, scrunching up his face in mock disdain. I adjusted my chair, as I continue too watch him do the dishes.
This is more amusing than watching that blonde idiot fail.
“You’re thinking too hard again. It’s just a bit of fun, you know.” I pointed out, noticing the scowl on his face, which only made me want to tease him more.
