The last day was a Saturday.

School wasn't in session, so I was working the day shift at McDonalds.

My parents were supposedly home for the day, and Mom had called previously to tell me that she would have dinner on the table waiting for me.

I laughed at this, and said that I hoped dad was cooking.

After saying that we loved each other, I hung up the phone and finished my shift at three in the afternoon that day.

I clocked out, excited to recieve my weekly paycheck. My ride was an aquaintence of mine, and the way home was full of laughter as we switched the radio stations and joked about school and work.

She dropped me off at my house, and the first thing I noticed was that it was quiet.

The table was empty.

But the TV was on.

Mom and Dad were sitting on the couch, staring wide-eyed at the TV.

The pictures on the screen were graphically violent and bloody, and I put my hand on Mom's shoulder as we watched the world begin to break.
