Chapter 3

"Miranda. Wake up. We need to go meet everyone at camp." Drake shakes me awake. My eyes fly open and I blink a few times. "What?" I look around. It's now dark. And we're still here, stranded. It wasn't a dream. I had wanted it so badly to be a dream.

"What time is it?" I ask. My voice almost doesn't even sound like me.

Drake looks at his watch before saying, "It's almost ten thirty."

It appears I have been asleep for awhile. For too long. I should have been awake doing something. "Oh. Well, where's the campfire?" I shiver a little. It gets cold at night.

"The only place on the island that has light." Drake says. I roll my eyes at him. It sounds like somebody is moody and I don't think now is the time to play these sort of games.

"Fine. I'll find it myself." I walk away from Drake and go find it myself. He never had to help me in the first place. I find the fire surrounded by a small group of people. It's not far from where I slept.

"Hey Miranda. Glad you could make it. But where's Drake?" Collin says. I look around and see that what Collin said was right. Most of the people that survived were pretty young people. Everyone is around my age or a bit older.

"Uh, I think he's coming." I sit down next to Molly and David. Molly smiles at me and I smile back. I find some comfort in her. She has that motherly aura that I kind of just need at the moment.

"Well, we can start without him." Collin smirks. I roll my eyes. I'm not sure what we're starting, but this ego war really needs to end. I scoot a little closer to Molly, wrapping my arms around myself. Molly leans into me a little. Maybe we both need each other.

"Well, if you haven't met me already, I'm Collin, and I guess you can say that I'm sorta like you're leader. Uh, I'm just going to talk about what our plans are for now. We have around forty people. We went out on a raft earlier today to the plane to get some supplies and check on the radio. Unfortunately, the radio does not work. For food and water, we'll have some people hunt and gather fruits we can find. For now, we have some water bottles. We need those to last as long as we possibly can." Collin pauses for a long time. His voice sounds confident, but his face looks a little lost. He looks back up at the group, "And that's all for now I guess. For sleeping, it would be best if we all slept here tonight. Tomorrow we'll build shelters and explore the island a little bit more." He nods his head.

"Sounds good." The girl that seemed to follow Collin everywhere pipes up. Everyone nods in agreement. I glance at Molly and she's nodding her head as well. I look down at David and see that he's sound asleep. Drake leans in over my shoulder, causing me to jump a little, "He probably doesn't even know what's going on." He whispers. I ask him how long he's been behind me and he shrugs his shoulders.

"Alright. Good. Good night everyone." And with that, Collin took a spot next to the fire. The girl kicked him and he shot up from his laying down position. She glared at him as she spoke quickly and quietly to him. He got up. Whatever she said had made him get up.

"Uh, it would be best if the elderly and those with kids slept close to the fire." Collin glanced sideways at the girl and she nodded her head in approval. I smiled. She looked around and spotted me. She must've thought that I was smiling at her cause then she smiled back and then started over to me. I groaned inwardly.

"Hey, why is she walking over here? I don't like her." Drake whispers in my ear.

"You know her?"
