Deserters & Shirkers Are People Too
The Conscientious Objectors,
Shirkers they're mocked,
Abused and shunned.
Made shameful...
Not as brave as soldiers.
Yet brave to say no.
Brave to stand for your rights.
Brave to stand for what you believe.
That is no shame.
Hear Them,
Allow them their voice...
Deserters,
Two kinds;
The first,
The uncaring,
Who happily look out for themselves,
Leave fellow soldiers and friends for dead
And no feelings of remorse.
Punishable;
A crime where
Justice should be revered,
Honoured and obeyed.
The second,
Nervous;
Overwhelmed
With grief,
Overwhelmed
With remorse,
Overwhelmed
With disorientation,
Feelings of
Safe failure
And shellshock.
The second,
Should not be shamed, shunned,
Or punished.
They already punish and shame themselves.
Haunted by terrors and ghosts.
Haunted by remorse, ill health
And illusions.
Set them free from their terror.
Set them free from burden of shame.
Let them be.
Let peace be their salvation
And life be their judge...
Hear them,
Allow them their voice...
