Beneath the Dragon's Skin

Chapter VIII

     [Your Name], Lukas, and little Emil had been flying for almost a whole day now; just a little underneath the puffy white clouds.

     [Your Name] noticed the sun close to being fully set and decided to rest for the night. They thought that Lukas and Emil might be tired as well as hungry. The dragon scanned the area below them for a place to stay; preferably a small area with some sort of body of water near.

     Their eyes eventually locked onto a clear space with a small river beside it. The [Scale Color] dragon angled their wings so they were diving downward. When [Your Name] became close enough, they slowed down and hovered lower to the ground; flapping their wings until they landed safely on the soft grass. They laid their body to the earth so Lukas and Emil could jump off.

     "Let's rest here for the night," [Your Name] stated.

     Everyone walked to the bank of the river and took a drink of the cool water. After that, the two boys ate the food Tino packed for them, but [Your Name] didn't need to. The mythical being could go a few days without eating; probably more If they really needed to. 

     [Your Name] laid on the soft grass below and curled up comfortably. Emil, very tiredly, shuffled over to them and curled up by their side and immediately fell asleep. The dragon smiled softly.

     The dragon then remembered a certain someone and offered, "H-hey, Lukas. You can come over here and sleep. I-if you want, that is." 

     Did I just stutter? The reptile silently thought. I've never done that before. I wonder why... could it be that—no, that's not possible...

     "Thanks," Lukas softly responded and nestled next to [Your Name] and Emil to sleep, eventually drifting off.

     [Your Name] started to fall asleep right after Lukas, not knowing about the pleasant dream that would soon come after.

Reader's P.O.V.

   I opened my eyes to see a small village before me, like the one that Lukas always tells me about.

     I looked down and recognized something that I never thought I would see. Hands. Human Hands. I looked back up to see Lukas with his hand out to me and a sparkle in his eyes. 

     "Come on, [Your Name]. I have more to show you," he said.

     "Yea, come on, slow-poke!" Emil exclaimed happily.

     An unconscious smile graced my lips as I took Lukas' outstretched hand. Then everything went black.

     You opened your eyes to meet a pair of feet right in front of your muzzle. What hit her a few seconds later was the realization that the feet were made of pure ice.
