The world is a stage

When everything you know about yourself comes from someone else's mouth
When you turn around but your whole damn life was never even yours
When your smile is plaster and the walls are brick and you try to paint it over
But there are nail holes too deep to be erased and cuts to new to forget
When you put one foot in front of the other but there's no pavement to catch your step
You wear your summer on your wrist only to remind you that it's over
The rain doesn't soothe you, the thunder is your panicked heart
When the street is flooded and your heart is drowning
When the lighting strikes all your efforts and burns them
Because you were too busy focusing on everyone else's storms
When the only thing left is a shard of your heart
A puzzle too sharp to pick up the pieces with your bare hands
When you take a deep breath and regret your regrets
You've got nothing to lose, nothing left to displace
The world has forgotten the look on your face
When you look in the mirror and your eyes see right through
To person you aren't and there's there's nothing to do
You let out the air in your lungs and your heart
You refuse to be an understudy, today is the day
When you play your own part
