Mending the Broken

We're both so fucking broken its ridiculous; honey, I've got your mangled skull bashed into my right collarbone and I think that made a crack run down my sternum.

God, I keep counting your ribs with my fractured fingers to make sure they're all there you always keep misplacing them while your legs tangle around mine in unnatural angles.

Your eyes are bloodshot; how many nights have the pain made you stay awake, screaming? Do you need my chest to rest your head on? Please do, if you don't mind your hair drying up along with the blood seeping out from my heart.

I'm sorry I keep crying rivers into the hollow of your neck, I know they make your cuts sting but hey, at least tears are an antiseptic think on the bright side.

I'm trying to mend you, I'm trying so hard but I think we're just breaking each other more.

(When broken people try to mend others without mending themselves), S.M.
