I wrote this a while back when two very important people I knew and cared for very much, both of whom wrote passionately about comics and superheroes, passed away within a week of each other.

What was especially brutal for me was the fact that they were both champions of diversity in comics. They loved comics enough that they were willing to fight for them to be better. And it was very painful for me to lose their voices just a few days apart.

It got me thinking of how many people aspire to want to write comics. And there are a lot of good resources out there. But because these two friends of mine were so honest and dedicated, it made me want to write something that spoke the truth about the good stuff in comics, but also how difficult it could really be. People who really, truly want to write comics will find this very useful. I hope you do, and I wish you all the luck in the world. This is not the SWEETEST article ever written, but it's full of stuff you may want to know, if you want to write comics for a living.

It's difficult, but absolutely worth it!

Best wishes,

Gail Simone
