caring

you can just tell,

how much a person cares,

just by the small things,

that takes no effort.

it's when I forget my jacket,

and he eyes his only one,

he doesn't want to give it up,

but lends it to me anyway.

it's how my best friend calls,

to see if I'm fine,

to talk about her day,

and make sure I'm alright.

it's how he glares at boys,

who give me a second glance,

and drapes an arm around me,

and leads me somewhere else.

it's how my brother hates it,

when I leave the house,

he says I'm being selfish,

but I see regret in his eyes.

it's how my mother stays up,

waiting for me to come home,

even if she's dead tired,

she doesn't turn off the phone.

it's how they share their blankets,

to hide me from the cold,

they say they don't mind,

but their shivers don't hold.

it's how I look at him,

and he doesn't see,

because he'll never know,

how much I appreciate him.

it's how he's always there,

prepared with a hug,

cause he knows I stress,

and he knows I need it much.

it's how they stay up late,

to keep me company,

and drive me out,

when I'm close to tears.

it's how they save me,

when I'm stumbling and falling,

and just a simple grab,

could make me stand.

I don't get why they care,

im such a simple soul,

who doesn't need anyone,

to help me hold.
