Lemon

A dose of acidity,  sting on the lips
Like memories of ex and x x upon x
The sour, the sweet, the inbetween
Is still the same fruit, just edged, cored
And left to wither in on itself
The lemon is silver, the lemon is red
The pH is poison, and we're bitter dead
The body is tender, the mouth is lead
And words dismember
And I seem to remember
Telling you I missed you
With acid in my throat
And bile in my belly
But still spewing passion
Like pollen in the springtime
I'm relaxed and darkly dreaming
That you'll wake and see me screaming
For your belated rescue
And you'll run, like you never ran to me
Like I ran to you
Honey, you're lemon, I'd rather self-medicate.
