Kindergarten.
I went by my full name. I got the nice teacher that everybody wanted.
I had half day and only went in the morning, I miss that.
My days were easy. Morning work, math, reading, science, writing, recess, play time until the end of the day in which we got 3 m&ms or skittles if we were good.
I always got three, except once.
It was during play time and I was at the house station, separated from my best friend who was at dress up. There was a little window in the house station that connected to dress up.
If there's one thing we weren't allowed to do in kindergarten, it's talk to the people at the other stations.
And one day I did.
The teacher caught us.
She moved our smiley faces with our names on them from the green side to the red.
We only got one m&m.
I had to take a yellow slip home that day.
When it was time for me to show my parents my slip for the day, they expected my usual green.
I started bawling.
I explained to them, "Italkedtosomeone*sniff*atAdifferentstation*sniff*andiknowitswrongbutidid*sniff*"
They just kind of stared at me like, "what's wrong with that?"
It stuck with me and I never EVER got less than three m&ms or had to move my name or take home a yellow slip.
