The next morning I woke with the unfamiliar feeling of a boy's arm around me. I opened my eyes and saw a still sleeping Ethan with his soft hair fanned across the pillow and over his face. He looked so adorably innocent and beautiful, my breath caught and my chest felt constricted.
A part of me had trouble believing that he was here. That he had spent all that time planning a song for me. That he had kissed me.
Repeatedly.
With passion.
And now, he was here.
Asleep.
Next to me.I looked at his sleeping face. I was so much in love with him it actually hurt.
Slowly his eyelids fluttered open, and for a second he looked confused. Then he focused on me and a smile spread across his face.
"Izzy," he whispered and pulled my body closer to his, bringing his face in to nuzzle my neck, causing bolts of lightning to shoot uncontrollably around my body.
He still smelled faintly of my mandarin and ginger shower soap.
We lay there, just comfortably breathing each other in for a few minutes before he shifted and looked at me again. I wanted to kiss him so bad, but something in his eyes held me back.
"What's on your mind?" I asked bringing my hand up to brush some hair from his eyes.
He looked away for a second before looking back at me.
"I was just trying to figure out if last night actually happened," he said.
"You mean you singing some random girl into submission?" I teased.
"No... Yes.. Izzy... Please don't play with me," he whispered with a shy smile.
I smiled back, trying to figure out how to reassure him.
"Last night happened, Ethan. And you made one girl, desperately in love with you, extremely happy," I said looking straight into his eyes realising that I had avoided direct eye contact for so long out of fear of betraying my emotions.
Finally looking straight at him without fearing I'd give myself away, I allowed myself to stare.
Openly.
Letting him see all the emotions I had hidden for so many months. He smiled and rubbed his nose on mine, like he had last night after the gig. Somehow it felt more intimate than anything I could have imagined.
"I just can't believe it actually worked. That this is for real," he whispered.
"Of course it worked! You could have sung the alphabet song," I giggled.
"Really?" he asked.
"Really!" I replied.
"Well, that means I'm gonna have to kiss you," he grinned.
"What's stopping you?" I teased.
"You're still talking," he said at the same time as he gently brushed his lips on mine.
Instantly my hand burrowed into his hair, pulling him just that fraction closer to make it a real kiss.
With a sigh he pulled away and cast a look at the time.
"As much as I'd love to stay right here. I kinda have to go," he said.
My hands were still playing with his hair and his arm was still hugging me close.
"What's the hurry," I asked.
He looked slightly embarrassed.
"I promised I'd visit my grandma," he said with a careful smile.
