"Oh my god! Alice!" Troy smiles a huge smile and sweeps me into a hug. A little touchy for meeting someone in person for the first time?
He finally lets me speak.
"Hey, Troy. Um, how are you?"
I finally get a good look at him. He cleans up pretty good: his green eyes (the first thing I noticed about him in the airport that early morning) are sparkling in the Hawaii sun, his oddly colored chestnut hair is slicked back, and his smile, along with his bubbly attitude, is absolutely contagious.
"I'm ecstatic! My cousin just got married, I'm in Hawaii, and I finally met you. How are you doing?"
I force a laugh. Not that I'm not happy, I mean, I'm about to get my phone back.
"Well, I'm very happy to know that you're not a creepy person who claimed to be a guy my age, just to get to me. You know, stranger danger and all that jazz. Ha..."
Wow, I'm bad at the whole socializing thing.
"I was thinking the same thing, no worries."
We kind of just stand there when I finally come to my senses.
"Oh my gosh, what are we doing? Let's exchange our phones!"
He makes an 'oh, duh' face and we finally switch back.
This probably sounds pathetic, but it felt so good to have my phone back.
I instinctively went to check all of my social media sites and text messages, but then I remembered, once again, that it was my sister's wedding day and waited for her to come out.
I slowly drifted away from Troy and made my way over to my fellow family members.
"Hey, um, Alice?" I hear Troy whisper as I was walking away.
"Yeah?"
"Um, could you, um, maybe, like, hang out with me at the reception?"
I look at him for a minute and he realizes that his request needs further explanation.
"Well, you see, I'm one of only a few of Jared's family members that were actually able to fly in for this wedding ,and I don't really have anyone to talk to...or dance with..."
He gives me a sheepish smile.
I consider this. Maybe Jeremy will see me with him and realize that he should leave me alone. Troy kept going, though.
"I mean, I would've asked one of the other bridesmaids but you're really nice and I only sort of know you and you've had my phone this whole time so I just know you're trustworthy and won't abandon me if someone else asks you to dance or something and even though-"
"Troy! Yes, I'll hang out with you later." I can't help but laugh a little.
He sighs a sigh of relief, smiles, and shoos me away since he probably noticed me trying to mingle with my family earlier.
Not even a minute later, Jared and Kylie happily process out of the church. We all blow bubbles and pop our party poppers in celebration.
They walk over to the limo, and I take that as my cue to go with the rest of the bridesmaids so we can go to the reception hall.
We all get settled in the limo, and from what I hear from the small talk surrounding me, it's a long ride.
I take this as the perfect opportunity to go through my phone.
Finally.
