I was in the middle of a very, deep sleep when I suddenly felt my phone vibrate under the sheets. I groaned as I slowly sat up and looked for it. Whoever was on the other line must have a very good reason why he or she was calling me on a Sunday afternoon. This was supposed to be my rest day, and I was making the most out of it, because for sure, tomorrow will be yet another hectic day for me.

When I finally found my phone, I checked the caller ID. It was an unregistered number. I was a bit hesitant to answer the call, worried that a fan might've gotten my number, but I had this gut feeling that the call was important. So I clicked on the "answer" button on the screen, and prepared myself for whoever this was.

"Hello?" My voice was little hoarse. Don't get me started with how tired I was. I could go on and on and on.

"Hello? Maine, ikaw ba 'to?" A male voice was on the other line.

My forehead creased as I tried to guess who it was. I felt like I've heard this voice before, but I wasn't quite sure. I remained silent for a few seconds before he finally spoke up again.

"Maine, si Richard ito, daddy ni Alden." He introduced himself.

When I heard the words "daddy" and "Alden", I immediately sat up straight. Na-conscious bigla ang yaya ninyo. Daddy pala ni Alden ang tumatawag. Nicomaine, umayos ka.

"Tito Richard.. kayo pala." It felt a bit awkward calling him "tito" since we weren't that close. We'd only seen each other for a couple of times and in those brief encounters, we only exchanged hello's and engaged in some small talk.

"Maine, pasensya ka na at napatawag ako ha. Baka may trabaho ka pa ngayon?" Tito Richard asked.

"Nako, wala po. Nagpapahinga lang po." I answered shyly. Tito Richard was quick to apologize. Pala-sorry din pala itong si tito. Manang-mana ang anak sa kanya.

"Sorry kung naistorbo kita, Maine. Si Alden kasi.."

When I heard his name, I couldn't help but feel worried. Something might've happened to him. I mean, his dad wouldn't call me for nothing right? I felt my heart beat race in an instant.

"Ano po ang nangyari kay Alden? Okay lang po ba siya, tito?" I asked. I heard Tito Richard sigh on the other line.

"Hindi, Meng." He answered. "Ang taas taas ng lagnat niya. 38.4 na ngayon, aabot na ata ng 39."

"Po?" I was shocked. No wonder he wasn't able to call me last night.
