CHAPTER THREE~
By the time Sydney and Dion were done with The Annual Gallenger Gingerbread Houses, night was falling. Both were exhausted from all the energy they had spent standing on tiptoe or crouching over to decorate the bottom of the house.
At present, they were sprawled out on the beanbag chairs in one corner of the café.
"Why's the name of the café Sugar Sweet? It's a cute name –don't get me wrong– but I can't understand why. It's not like you guys only sell cakes and pastries and sweet food." Sydney commented as she warmed her hands around the cup of tea she was drinking from.
"It actually started that way. My great-grandparents I think? Yeah, they started this place up as a bakery. Somewhere along the way, it morphed into a café." Dion shrugged. "It was a café by the time I was born. I think it was converted into a café when my mom was a kid."
"Yeah, where are your parents?"
"Oh! They're at home. They didn't come in today, which isn't uncommon. I man the café myself occasionally. I got too absorbed in a book I was reading because the after a random customer left, no one else came in. I didn't notice the snow, got snowed in and well, apparently there was one sleepy customer left all curled up in the booth like a kitten."
"Sorry."
"S'okay. It's far less lonely with you anyway. Anyway, what do you want for dinner?"
"Doesn't matter. I'm not a picky eater."
"In that case, I'll heat up some leftover soup and sandwiches."
"Sounds great."
Dion left to prepare dinner and Sydney was left to her own thoughts. She sighed deeply how did she have the terrible luck of being put in this situation? It was more nerve wracking than anything. She was hyperaware of everything Dion did. His kind and slightly flirty nature only served to make matters worse.
"God, help me get through these two days alive." She whispered hoarsely.
"What?"
Sydney whipped her head around, hoping he hadn't heard what she said.
"Oh, nothing." she said breezily.
"Cool. The food is warming up by the way, it'll be ready soon." Dion informed her as he walked over and plopped down on a beanbag chair.
"Awesome, I'm hungry."
"Me too."
Silence fell over the pair as they got lost in their own thoughts.
"Hey Syd? Do you still suck at exercising?" Dion asked randomly.
"What?"
"I remember back in middle school you were the worst at PE. But you excelled in health because it was just studying stuff. No offence of course."
"None taken. Bad times Dion. Very bad times. I hated exercise. But no, I'm much better now. After university started, I began to exercise. It was horrible at first but my diet was really bad and my parents have trained me to be health conscious. Well, I never exercise on breaks. I don't know, I never have any motivation to exercise when I'm not a uni," Sydney explained, finding joy in the shocked expression that bloomed on Dion's face. "I'm pretty fit now. I could probably beat you in a few things."
"Push ups."
"Huh?"
"Push up competition right now." Dion challenged, picking the worst exercise for most people.
