As the boat arrived at Hotland, you climbed off of it and headed up the stairs to get to the main part of Hotland, the spot where everything connected. As you took a glance to the not-so-far-off lab, you wondered if you should go there. The River Person had told you to "beware the man who speaks in hands." But they were always saying stuff that really didn't make all to much sense, so you figured that it wouldn't hurt to try and talk to that skeleton.
You stood in place, looking at the lab. Would the skeleton be in there? Maybe. And... the thing about communication. He seemed to understand you. Maybe there was a way around you not understanding his odd sign language. He could probably write in English if he had a paper and pencil. That would be a fairly simple way around it.
These thoughts filled you with determination. You walked to the lab door with hopes that the skeleton was in there, and knocked. There wasn't a reply for a few seconds.
"Just.. one moment.. I'll-" a voice from the inside said, rather softly with a hint of a British accent, yet seemed to be cut off by a glitchy-sounding sound. You looked at the door oddly, and wondered if this really was where that skeleton was. He couldn't speak, last time you checked. But, then again, you only saw him for about 5 minutes, and only talked to him for about 30 seconds. So, maybe he could speak then? Well, if he could, then why didn't he just talk at Grillby's? You got confused by this.
As you were thinking about this, the door to the lab opened up. The skeleton was standing behind it, with a his smile, just as before. Yet now, he was wearing a lab coat. Seeing you, he waved. You looked at him, and waved back. So this was, in fact, where the skeleton you had met was.
"Hello," he said in a soft voice.
"Hi.." you said, looking at the skeleton. So he could speak? Looking at him, you noticed that the skeleton had a white scarf on.
"You... came to my laboratory?" the skeleton asked. He seemed to have a hint of happiness in his voice.
"Yeah, I did," you paused for a moment, wondering what you should say next. Saying, "I came here to figure out if you were the scientist who works here or not," sounded kind of creepy to you. Unable to think of anything else to say, you just didn't say anything. The skeleton started to say something, but all that came out of his mouth was a very glitchy sound. He got a frustrated look, and closed his mouth. No longer smiling, he made a 'wait' sign with his hand- something you could understand, since it wasn't in his sign language- and walked into his lab.
Once the skeleton had walked in, you peered into the laboratory. It looked... laby. Like what a lab should look like. There were tables set up with beakers and chemicals by them, or tables full of metal parts, and wrenches, screwdrivers and whatnot. The skeleton was at a table that had metal parts scattered all over it. He had taken his scarf off, and it was sitting on the floor next to the table. His hands were at his neck, messing with something. They moved away, and one of them was holding something, which the skeleton set on the table. You noticed some smoke was trailing from the device.. thing.
You slowly moved forward to stand in the doorway, watching the skeleton work. Out of the corner of his eye socket, you saw the skeleton glance at you, but then looked back to what ever he was working on. While you were watching, you thought of what the River Person had said. This made you wonder if it was a bad idea to talk to the skeleton, or just be at his lab. You doubted it, and, just like you were thinking before, the River Person always said stuff that didn't ever completely make sense. So, for now, you just decided to ignore what the River Person said, or hoped to ignore it for the most part.
You had ended up spacing out thinking about what the River Person said, you didn't notice that the skeleton seemed to be done with what ever he was working on or fixing or whatever, and was putting his scarf back on. As he walked back to you, you snapped out of your thought on what the River Person had said.
"Sorry.. I have yet to complete this. It will not take me much longer, though," the skeleton said.
"Oh, okay," you said, only partially understanding what the skeleton meant. Finish what? That device-thing you saw him working on? Probably. Looking at the skeleton, you finally decided to ask one question that had been bugging you: "Um, what's your name?"
"My name...? It's Gaster, W. D. Gaster," Gaster told you.
So Gaster was his name. W. D. Gaster. You felt achieved knowing his name, but now you were curious as to what the W. D. stood for. Dog Gamnit.

Hahahhahahah. I'm really happy that this came out just a day after the second part came out, and not like, four days after. I feel fairly accomplished. Now, the question is when the next part will come out! Hopefully within a week... hopefully... :3
Also, sorry that these chapters are kinda short, but I think that they end in good places, so I'm happy with that. And... please tell me. Do you guys think my Gaster personality is okay? I really don't know.
And one more thing I probably should have said on like, the first chapter. This takes place before Undertale does, so things wiiiill be different. Like Mettaton- he don't exist. Probably. Sowwy.
...Also I really feel like this chapter was terrible..
