I walked to my next few classes; I only had art with Kate and Sam, but no other classes. I knew others in my other classes but I didn’t really have super close friends in other classes. I flipped my bangs out of my eyes and stood up for lunch. One of my classmates asked, “Want to sit with me and my friends today?”
I politely shake my head, “Thank you but I need to do a paper in the library, maybe next time! Sorry!”
“It’s fine! You don’t have to apologize, you’re so sweet! See you later!”
I wave has she walks off. I head toward the library when I see a girl sitting up against the lockers hiding her face. Two other girls I recognized as juniors were laughing at her and calling her names. I run over and stand in front of the girl, “Hey stop it!”
The girls just stare at me and then walk off in a huff. I kneel down and ask, “Are you okay?”
The girl has dark black hair and pale skin. She’s thin and has beautiful brown eyes, “Yes. Thank you.”
I hold my hand up and she gratefully accepts it, “I’m Natalie. Natalie Parks.”
“I’m Jenna Albright.”
“It’s nice to meet you, are you new here?”
“Yes.”
“It’s lunch, want me to show you the way to the cafeteria.”
Jenna backs up, “No thanks. I’m fine.”
I see she looks terrified, “Are you okay?”
Jenna nods, “I’m fine…”
Jenna is going to say something else but stops so I smile, “Want to come to the library with me?”
Jenna takes a moment and then nods, “Sure.”
I walk to the library giving her a tour. She starts to open up and when we reach the library she dives into the fiction section. She grabs a book, “This one looks good!”
I nod, “Yeah, I read it, it is!”
Jenna smiles, “What book will you choose?”
I look for a book and Jenna and I talk. She is really nice and I can feel that she likes having company. I just hope those mean girls don’t bother us, “Want to join the committee to save the art program?”
Jenna looks at me, “Sure, what do I have to do?”
“We are just organizing the event that’s all.”
“Will you be there?”
“Yep apparently I was elected captain.”
“Well if you’re doing it, then okay!”
I walk with Jenna to her class then wave goodbye. After school I start to walk home when I see Jenna standing outside, “Jenna!”
Jenna looks at me and runs to me, “Hey!”
I smile, “How was your day?”
“It was fine, what about you?”
“It was pretty boring.” I laugh and she laughs with me. I feel like Jenna understands me. “Do you walk home?”
“Yes.”
“Me too, where do you live?”
Jenna thought then said, “I walk a few blocks that way.”
I look in the direction she’s describing and I nod, “Cool, I live over there, in Covet Drive.”
Jenna nods and asks, “What will you do now?”
