Nina Sofia Jackson:
Our baby girls were turning one year old on March fourth. We would be leaving the 2nd for California for my monthly check up and to celebrate their birthday at the ranch. Michael already had his people planning the most spectacular event. It was hard to believe that a year had gone by already. The last week of January was mine and Michael's one year anniversary. Neither one of us had acknowledged it and I wondered if he even realized it. He was so immersed in either his work, the children, or stressing over the Marcus situation which hopefully had been resolved. He had called me once to give me a number I could reach him at and speak briefly with Maddox and I hadn't heard from him since. He said something about still having some classes to complete while he was in the halfway house and then he is to start a new program to help him find employment. In a way it kind of left me at ease... I knew he wasn't homeless in the street somewhere. The programs were designed to help him become a functioning member of society. He would be ok.
My mother was over today. She was upstairs taking advantage of the new entertainment system Michael paid for in the living room. A brand new 70" Ultra HD TV with surround sound. She was watching some movie with people on a beach and I bet she felt like she was right there with them. The girls were down for their afternoon nap so I decided to sneak downstairs and see what Michael was doing in his studio.
Lately I'd been seeing a lot of new faces coming in and out of our home. More and more females at that... I couldn't tell if he's working down here or just having gatherings all day every day. Today I found him alone, listening intently to his new song.
Do you remember the time
When we fell in love
Do you remember the time
When we first met
Do you remember the time
When we fell in love
Do you remember the timeHe didn't even notice I had walked into the room. His eyes were closed tightly, his neck jerking to the beat, fingers snapping... I almost felt like I was intruding. I felt his back flinch under the palms of my hand as I slid them up to his shoulders and gave him a brief massage. He rolled his head back in one circular motion as I eased the tension out of his neck and shoulders.
"C'mon here girl..." he pulled me into his lap and brought his arms around me, his hands found their usual place on my stomach. He stopped the track as it came to an end.
"How much did you hear?" he asked.
"About the last minute or so... I love it. And what a coincidence... hmm... Remember the time..." I hinted at him to see if he'd catch my drift. He was quiet. I turned my head and tilted it back so I could meet his eyes. He smiled a bit and looked away.
"What? Ok... so it's not exactly a word for word description of our love story... but there was nothing romantic about how we first met. And nothing rhymes with the word surrogate."
I rolled my eyes. He was completely off. "It's funny that you're singing about remembering the times... when you didn't even remember our one year anniversary." His eyes widened and darted back to mine.
"Oops... When was it?"
"Michael Joseph Jackson!" I threw an elbow into his stomach. Not only did he forget he didn't even know what day it was! I tried to scare him with my most ferocious glare.
He giggled lightly and buried his face into my neck. "Sorry. If you hadn't of turned me into a raging jealous idiot with this Marcus business... I might have remembered." He spoke to me in his lowest, manliest voice... The tone that secretly turned me on so much.
I pursed my lips, narrowing my eyes at him. He pressed his lips against mine. "We made it one year, baby... Barely, but we made it." He said with a wink of an eye.
