When I close my eyes (Poetry contest entry)

When I close my eyes,

Everything melts away,

The pain and suffering of day to day life,

Is simply gone.

And then I open them,

And it all rushes back,

The thoughts and feelings that’ll be the death of me,

They’re all there.

It sucks really,

To live like this,

But I live all the same fighting and struggling,

Hoping for relieve.

And so I spin pretty hopes out of rotten yarn,

And wrap my self in them,

Throwing myself into work for people who seem to care little of me,

And time elapses.

Though at the end of the day,

When I can finally take a break,

When I can finally close my eyes and let everything melt away,

I feel free.
