Ms. Wilson:
I apologize for bringing you this unfortunate news, but it's been reported that Squadron Leader Caleb Stanford has been missing in action for over two days. His plane was shot down during his air raid and we were able to recovery the aircraft, but he was nowhere to be found, evidently using his parachute to escape the flames that ignited in the cockpit. His will, along with a photograph of you, miraculously survived the fire and only gained a few burnt edges. I've enclosed both articles for you. I've also sent in a portrait of Sg. Stanford.
There is still some hope that Sg. Stanford is alive. But, judging from all the areas he might've landed, all possible areas is within enemy territory. It is safe to conclude that Caleb Stanford is deceased. I am very sorry to bring you such news and I'm at a loss as to how we lost such a great pilot. I give you and his family my heartfelt condolences.
Yours sincerely,
Wing Commander, Adjutant,
No. 11 Squadron, RAF
