When It Comes To Us, It's Never Off The Table

Chapter 3

Callie's POV

I come back downstairs later and find Brandon watching TV with Jude and Mariana.  I rub Jude's head and greet Mariana. "Brandon can I talk to you alone for a minute?" He nods and gets up from the couch. I lead him out to the back porch.

Concern washes over Brandon's face. "What's wrong? Did I do something?" "No not really. I'm just concerned about you. You seemed upset and kind of twitchy earlier. Are you okay?" Brandon scratches his neck, a thing guys do when they're nervous. "I'm fine Callie. I just wanted to make sure you got home safely." I hug him. "Well I did, thank you very much. Anyways are you sure that's all?" "I'm sure."

A couple of minutes of awkward silence pass between us. "So have you been working on any new pieces lately?" He smiles a shy smile. "I have actually. I've been working on a classical one and It Will Rain by Bruno Mars. As for originals, I'm keeping that on the down low for now." I pout. "Darn it. I need to be the first one to hear a Brandon Foster original masterpiece." He laughs. "I wouldn't call my songs that." I stare at him intensely. "But I would."

Brandon clears his throat. "Actually Callie there is something I need to talk about since we have a moment alone because those are far and few in between these days." He takes a shaky breath. "Callie I've been trying to push this down for many months now because I'm with Lulu and you're with Wyatt, but I still love you. No matter how much I try to move on from you, I can't. Lulu is great, but she's not you. She's not you. You complete in ways I never knew a person could."

"Brandon I still have some feelings for you too, but you know that we can't do this again. No matter how much both of us want to. We're family now." Tears pour out of his eyes. "Don't say that. Anything is possible. When it comes to us, it's never off the table." He wipes his eyes. "God, I feel like I'm losing you all over again."

"Brandon, even if we did try again, we'd have to do it in secrecy for at least a few more months. Plus, you would have to deal with Lulu and I would have to deal with Wyatt. It wouldn't be pretty. So to conclude this conversation, I will say this. I need some time to consider this. Until then, this discussion is closed." He smiles a small smile. "I knew you felt the same Callie. I just knew it." I smile back. "I bet you did."
