Ash and Dawn don't have a love mechanic. They have a best friend one. They are better as best friends because they are so alike that they relate to each other, but it doesn't necessarily lead to feelings for each other.
If Amour didn't exist, I would ship it as my OTP.
Unfortunately, Amour has aspects that points out the flaws/ what's missing in Pearl.
4th Gen for life though. My first Pokémon game was Pokémon Diamond.
