Second night:

She stared at the clock, watching the seconds, minutes and hours pass by ever so slowly.

Her eyelids felt heavy, causing her smile softly knowing that she would finally fall asleep.

As soon as she closed her eyes, her phone vibrated. She groaned and tried to ignore it. It stopped after a moment and she sighed with relief, drifting off into a deep sleep.

The vibrating started again a few seconds later.

Her eyes flew open and she picked up her phone, checking the caller ID.

Unknown.

Same number as yesterday.

Letting out a quiet sigh, she answered the call and pressed the speaker against her ear.

❝It's a good morning isn't it?❞

"I was about to fall asleep..." her voice was muffled.

❝Oh, I'm so sorry...I'll hang up now.❞ The boy felt guilty for disturbing her.

"No, it's fine," she assured. "I won't fall back asleep in another long while, so it'd be good if I had some company."

She could almost feel his smile.
