Through The Madness (Soul Eater/Stein x Marie fanfic)

Chapter 2

Mari stood against the wall, watching kids dance, and teachers try not to eat the food that was laid out. Stein was walking around, his eyes drifting lazily. Mari couldn't help but watch his graceful steps. He was handsome in  his dark suit, his gray hair looking brighter. She herself had worn a black dress to match her eye patch, her blond hair curled to near perfection. The music boomed loudly, and the kids laughed even louder.

"Welcome back!" Lord Death shouted from the front of the room. Lord Death and Death The Kid were standing on a black stage, surrounded by white curtains. "We welcome back Miss Marie. We also have a new nurse!" He bounced in place. "And now Kid has prepared a speech, then we dance and feast!" Lord Death backed up, and Kid took a step forward. He was wearing a white suit, is hair combed to perfection. He stood straight and began to speak. "We stand stronger than ever as we recover from our struggle last year..." He went on about how the school was stronger than ever and how they were rebuilding Death City. 

After Kid's speech, the students rushed the buffet table. Black Star ate an entire plate full of food in under five minutes and was back in line for seconds. Mari had just left the line when Stein came up behind her. He plucked some fruit off her plate and ate it. "Why don't you get your own plate?" She asked, laughing. Stein showed his teeth in a fierce smile. "Want to dance?" He didn't wait for an answer before taking her plate and setting it aside. They danced with a couple other teachers, making the kids laugh. Maka and Soul joined them, showing off their new dance moves. Liz and Patty flanked Kid on the dance floor, all three dancing in perfect unison. The party went on for two hours. 

When Marie began to get tired, and Stein stood against the wall next to her, there was a scream from the middle of the room. Something dove in from the window near the high sealing. A dark figure flew at Lord Death, and they vanished at the same time. The students began to panic. Kid was frozen in terror. "Stay calm! Return to your rooms NOW!" Sid yelled in his deep voice. Sten gave him a look. He was the one that caused him to become a zombie. "That was too easy..." Another teacher said, confused. All the kids rushed out of the room, except for Maka and Soul, Kid and the Thompson sisters, and Black star and Tsubaki. "You kids get out." Mari said, her voice shaking. "No. We want to help." Maka said. All the others nodded in agreement, Kid trying not to panic. Spirit stepped up next to Stein. "No Maka, if they overcame Lord Death, you can't handle it." He spoke with the authority of a father. Their relationship had improved some, but not enough for her to care. "We did it last time!" She replied angrily, her brown pigtails swaying with every movement she made. Stein put up a hand. He lit a cigarette, took a drag and spoke. "Let them help." Marie and Spirit gave him a shocked look. He shrugged, and they all headed to his lab to work out a plan.
