[i was having a lot of emotions about ushijima and this was the result, it's a tad long (really really long I'm sorry I like him lots) . I think I've fallen in love with this boy, just a little bit.]
song: eden - wake up.

there was something unreal about being. about existing and having a heart beat and a mind of your own, it was strange but the counting of your breaths was what assured you, you would be just fine.

when the teacher has assigned partners for a science project, you weren't that shocked with who you partnered with. it wasn't because the boy was mean or cruel, but he was quiet and observant and many girls swooned over him in secret and you knew this. however, you didn't view him in the same sort of light, everyone around you would tell you, he was intense and didn't have time for trivial things, the only thing the top player in the prefecture cared about, was volleyball. you understood the need for perfection and the security of passions brought, and you didn't view him as mean and cold as others did, he was very serious, and maybe, just a little bit, forced to grow up a tad fast just as you were.

you, on the other hand, only cared about school. you had gotten into Shiratorizawa on a scholarship, which was fine, it wasn't really common knowledge and most everyone (aside from on the teachers) didn't know. unlike everyone else however, you didn't come from an impressive background and you didn't spoil yourself with any of the grand clubs that were required. you had spoken to the teacher about it, and had joined what the called the 'study club' which met in the library for an hour almost everyday after class and you did your homework.

you had been in the library, hunched over and taking notes as you flipped through the history book, you had an essay due in a few days, and you wanted to get it done as soon as possible. you would speak to your partner the following day, ask him when was best for his schedule to fit you in so you could do the project on your assigned human body system: the brain. the teacher had said it was one of the hardest to do, but knew you and wakatoshi would be able to handle it, as the hardest working duo in the advanced class.

you didn't really have friends, but you didn't mind that much really. you got a lot of social interaction at school and at work, but as far as friends were concerned, something that took time, it didn't seem to fit comfortably. work was something that needed to be done like laundry on Sunday's so you didn't mind, not really. old lady Jin was nice and kind and her family ran the shop, you had been the first person she hired outside of the family when you had been thirteen, a special case. she even let you take home cakes and sweets at the end of the day if you wanted them. you didn't mind, they were worth the extra few pounds every from time to time.

you looked up when someone stopped in front of you, legs bent and resting on the chair beside you, hair pulled back in a loose and messy bun, head on hand as you took notes. your eyes widened, seeing green eyes and you straightened as the boy looked down at you, easily standing a head taller than you. "(l/n)-san, are you busy?"
your eyes widened, not having expected wakatoshi ushijima to ask such a genuine question. "um...no, not particularly." you straightened, crossing your ankles as he took the chair in front of you. "is there something you need, wakatoshi-kun?" your head tiled to the side, and he seemed so calm and collected, always.
"I would like to discuss our project on the neruological system, if you have the time, I know you are intense in studying."

like you are in volleyball.

you breathed in, closing the book after tabbing it, pulling your notes into your lap. "I was going to ask you tomorrow, I have done some independent study on it, what would be the best time for you?" he only stared blankly at you, and you swallowed harder. "I know you're busy with volleyball, I don't want to interfere." you clarified, and his eyes widened slightly, and that took you by shock.
"when is the best time for you? I would not want to interrupt your studies."
