Lilly's Point of View

In the morning, I don't feel so hot anymore. I'm so happy because I hated being hot. It was so uncomfortable and I wasn't able to sleep. I look over at mommy. She is still sleeping. She looks so pretty when she's sleeping.

I take the thing on the nightstand that mommy put under my tongue last night and do just that. I wait a few seconds and then it beeps. I take it out of my mouth and look at it. There are three numbers, a nine, eight, and six. A dot is in between the eight and six. I don't know what these numbers mean, but they must mean good things because I'm not hot anymore.

My tummy growls. I'm hungry, but I don't want to wake up mommy or Joshy, afraid that they will get mad at me and hurt me. I go to my room and pull out a blue onesie with cupcakes on it. I put it on and carefully walk down the stairs, clutching the railing for dear life.

I go into the kitchen and grab a chair and push it to the cabinets. I stand on top of the chair and look through the cabinets and see a box with a picture of pancakes. I grab it and then go into the fridge. At the orphanage, Mrs. Grey made pancakes for breakfast every Monday. I want to make them so I know what goes into the pancake mix.

I get the eggs and some blueberries and hold on to them carefully so I won't drop them. I go back to the cabinet and get the flour and sugar. I also get a big bowl to mix the stuff in and a frying pan. I pull out a drawer and take out a big spoon. I pour everything into the bowl and start to thoroughly mix everything.

I turn to the stove. I've never touched one before, but I know that you're supposed to cook pancakes with it. I turn the knob on the stove and fire comes out. I jump up, scared and lose my balance. I fall flat on my butt and the ball falls on top of my head and frying pan falls next to me, making a loud noise. I start to cry because the loud noise scared me and I had an accident.

Jen's Point of View

I'm having a dream about pizza, when I hear a loud bang followed by loud crying. I sit up and look over to where Lilly was sleeping, but she's not there. I get out of bed and walk barefoot downstairs stairs and into the kitchen.

Lilly is curled up in the corner with a big bowl on her head, covered and some yellow liquid, and crying her eyes out. A frying pan is on the floor and the fire on the stove is turned on. I pick up the frying pan, turn off the stove, and walk over to Lilly and squat down in front of her, removing the bowl from her head.

"Oh, look at you, Lilly. You're a mess." I say taking a strand of her sticky hair. "I-I sowwy, mommy!" She cries. I lift her into my arms and hold her close to me. I don't care that my clothes are getting wet and sticky from whatever she's covered in.

"What happened?" I ask softly. She sniffles. "I-I twied to make p-pancakes and then I turned-ed on the stove and fire came out and it scared-ed me and the pan fell, making a loud noise and it scared-ed me and I had an accident." She wails. I stroke her sticky hair.

"Oh, Lilly. Why didn't you wake me or Josh up?" She shakes her head. "I-I didn't want you to be mad at me." She whispers. I can't be mad at her. She's only four. "Baby, if you want something, all you have to do is ask. You aren't allowed to turn on the stove. It'll burn you if you aren't careful." I explain to her.

She nods. "I sowwy, mommy. Pwease, no be mad.."

"I'm not mad, Lilly. I just want you to be careful. If you want something, ask for it. Okay?" She nods. "Yes, mommy."

"Now, let's get you cleaned up." I carry her upstairs and in the hallway, I almost bump into Josh. "Oh, sorry." We both say in unison and laugh. He looks over at Lilly. "What happened to her?"

"She had a little...accident. I'm going to run her a bath." He nods. "I'll make some breakfast." I walk into the bathroom and turn on the water. I take off her onesie and her diaper and put her in the bathtub.

"Lilly, why did you think I'd be mad if you woke me up?" I ask as I start to wash her hair. "Befowe, with my daddy, I couldn't wake him up for anything. If I did, he would hurt me..." she mumbles, tears streaming down her cheeks. I gently wipe her eyes and her cheeks.

"Baby, I would never hurt you. I won't let anyone hurt you. I promise." She nods slowly. I finish washing out all of the pancake batter out of her hair and body and get a pink towel from the heater. I always put towels on top of the heater to make it nice and warm. I dry her damp hair and wrap the towel around her tiny body. I carry her into her room and set her on the floor.

"What would you like to wear today?" She walks over to the drawers and scans through them. She pulls out a pair of light blue jeans and a pink shirt. I iron the outfit and put her into a clean diaper. I really should start potty training her. She'll be five in April, which is seven months away.

I guess I'll start potty training her in the new year. I helped her into her clothes and sit down on the bed and braided her hair. I take her hand and walk downstairs to the dining room table.

A/N: I know, short filler chapter. I promise they'll be bigger events happening the story next time. Also, I changed Lilly's birthday from February 14th to April 14th. Finally, the story takes place in early September of 2015.
