Alden's
"It's been six years, yet you still manage to make my heart beat this fast," Maine mumbled as she stepped off my car. I carried our bag on one shoulder and held her hand as we walked towards our house.
"RJ?" Maine called out as I unlocked our door. "Bakit nakabukas yung ilaw sa likod? I can see it from here."
"Let's go see," I suggested and finally went inside. Switching the lights on, I dropped our bag on the couch, with Maine's hand still intertwined with mine.
Walking towards the kitchen to the back door, I felt Maine's hand squeeze mine - a sign that she's nervous.
"Bakit ka kinakabahan?" I asked.
"Hindi ko alam," she lightly laughed. "Dapat ba akong kabahan?"
"Kasal na tayo, uy," I nudged her shoulder to mine. "Ganito ka noong magpopropose ako sa 'yo."
"Weh?"
"Oo, tsaka nung I asked you to be my girlfriend. Ganitong-ganito."
"Sabi ko naman sa'yo, di nawawala yung charm mo when it comes to making me feel nervous yet excited at the same time," she softly answered as I held the doorknob, ready to reveal what was outside.
"Ready?" I asked and she nodded.
When I opened the door, Maine gasped and instantly pulled me for a hug.
"I love you," she mumbled against my chest. "Happy monthsary!"
I kissed her forehead and hugged her tightly. "I love you, Nicomaine. I love you. I love you."
"God," she whispered when she pulled away. "I can't believe it's been fourteen months since we got married."
She looked around the place. I prepared a romantic dinner date for us, minus the candles because it's too risky (I had to leave to pick her up after preparing this). I had placed Christmas lights on the bushes and on the vineyard to illuminate the place. It wasn't something extravagant, since I really did not have enough time to prepare well.
"When did you do this?" Maine asked as she looked around.
I scratched the back of my head. "Wala talaga akong shoot ng six to eight, babe. Hanggang four lang ako kanina. Dumeretso na ako dito after kong kumuha ng gamit natin."
"You did this all by yourself?" she asked.
"Yes," I sighed. "I would have put up polaroid photos and cut-out hearts but I didn't have time."
"Ano ka ba?" she sighed and walked towards me, clasping both of my hands in hers. "The mere fact that you even had time to have a date with me is everything, RJ."
"Okay lang kahit cliché?" I asked and she nodded, stepping closer to me. "Kahit corny?" She laughed and tipped her toes to peck a kiss on my lips.
"Kahit corny," she repeated. "I love you."
"I love you, Nicomaine. Always and forever."
"Wait, I'll just snap a photo for Instagram," she giggled. Ahh, this woman.
I let her have her moment before we sat to eat dinner. I didn't have much time to prepare, so I had to buy our dinner from Maine's favorite American restaurant.
The night went on as usual.
After six years, she still had my heart beating so loudly - still, it felt like it would burst out of my chest. After six years, her smile and laugh still softened my being and added vibrance to my life. After six years, she still managed to make me fall in love with her over and over again. After six years, Nicomaine Dei Mendoza-Faulkerson still had me wrapped around her finger.
