11 - Lovers in Light

CHAPTEN ELEVEN:
Lovers in Light

Kana runs as fast as her legs can take her into the Akatsuki base. She runs past all of the members, through the never ending corridors, around all of the corners and through doors until she reaches her bedroom. The door swings open from her hasty grab before it slams shut and she slides down with her back against it. The rogue ninja brings her knees up to her chest and wraps her arms around them. She puts her head between her knees and sobs. Kana doesn't care what all the other members are thinking. Maybe they now believe that she is weak or not strong enough to be in the Akatsuki, but she doesn't care, and she won't care.

Kana cries and cries until she can't breath anymore. She sobs until her eyes are red and swollen and tears are clouding her vision. Coughs and sobs turn to coughing until she starts choking, unable to comprehend the breathing spasms she is experiencing. The same emotions she experienced when she discovered that her beloved Minato and Kushina had died.

Kana has been crying for hours straight. When the battle ended, the sun was setting. It is at least midnight now.

The saddened girl has trouble standing up, but she manages to do it slowly and steadily.

She flashes to Itachi's bedroom door and stands there swaying left and right for a minute or two. She knows that he knows she is there but is waiting for her to do something.

Slowly, Kana raises up her closed fist and knocks on the door.

In less than a second after her knuckles connect with the door, Itachi immediately opens it. She has no idea what she's doing, she is just doing what her body is telling her to even though her mind is saying to do the opposite.

Itachi takes one look at her red face and allows her to enter his room. She steps in and looks around for a while. It's a simple set up, beige walls, a double bed, a desk, cupboard and a few other items. By the time she is finished evaluating the room Itachi is sitting in his bed, holding the blanket up as he waits for her.

She walks over to Itachi and lies beside him.

To do what she did back in Konoha was such a sacrifice. Kana doesn't want her family to feel upset, but it's the only way to make them not want to get revenge on the Akatsuki. Nor does she want them to get injured because of her selfish reason of not wanting to join the organisation. By sacrificing herself, she is saving her loved ones.

Kana weeps, letting all of her tears flow down her face. Itachi places his palm on the small of her back rubs continuous soothing circles until she falls asleep. She feels herself go lightheaded and soon later she shuts her eyes, allowing herself to drift into a deep sleep in Itachi's warm embrace.

"Be quiet. She's still asleep." Kana hears Itachi's monotonous voice say.

The first thing she smells is Itachi's marvellous scent surrounding her. Waking up to that is extraordinary.

She slowly opens her eyes and from taking one look in the room, obviously she isn't in her own. She sits up in a fright.

I-It wasn't a dream... last night really happened. What came over me?
Kana thinks.

She can remember it clearly. One second she is in her room crying, the next she is in Itachi's room, under his blanket and in his embrace.

"I swear, Itachi. If you raped her I will kill you, hm!" Deidara points an accusing finger at him. Kana diverts her eyes to the door, where Itachi and Deidara are arguing about something.

Kana blushes a dark shade of red and covers her face with the blankets after hearing her friend's embarrassing accusation.

Unluckily, they both hear her shuffling and look over to see Kana hiding under blankets. Deidara manoeuvres past Itachi who stands at the doorframe and rushes over to her.

"Kana! Un! Are you okay!? I didn't get to see you after you came back from your mission, hm. Why were you crying!? What did Itachi do to you!?" he yells, louder than she wishes he had.

"Nothing. He didn't do anything... you're so dramatic." she says with a soft forced laugh.

"Don't lie to me Kana, did he rape you!?" he asks and stares deep into her soul.

Kana screams and curls under the warm blanket which belongs to Itachi. After a moment she peeks out to see the one and only Uchiha leaning against the doorframe with an amused smirk on his face.

She groans in annoyance.

"YOU DIDN'T ANSWER... HE DID, DIDN'T HE!?" Deidara screams and lunges to tackle Itachi.

Man, these guys are way too overdramatic.

She flashes to stand in front of Itachi with her arms out stretched to protect him.

"Deidara, he didn't do anything bad, you idiot. In fact, he was there for me... he helped me through the night." she admits, slightly embarrassed that she is an S-Rank criminal who needed someone to help her get to sleep.

"Itachi... was there... for you?" Deidara repeats in disbelief. She nods her head.

"Well, I'm going to go have some breakfast. See you later, lunatic." Kana walks out of Itachi's room and down to the kitchen.

"What game are you playing at, hm?" Deidara asks Itachi subtly as soon as Kana is out of sight.

"I'm not playing a game. She needed someone and I happened to be the one she needed." he says with a distant voice. "She came to me. I didn't go to her." he finishes.

"You better not hurt her, un."
