4: Snappy Sisters & Stupid Bars

I was doomed.

It was way past midnight and I was pretty sure that the school had called my sister, telling her I was missing.

I hesitantly pushed the front door open.

There, on the couch, was Leah and her long time boyfriend, Jared. Leah had bags under her eyes and a mug of coffee on the table beside her. Both their heads turned to face me and I closed the door behind me, quietly.’

“Uh, I’m sorry.” I mumbled.

“Sorry?” Leah echoed, standing up. There was a look of disbelief on her face.

“Sorry? Do you know how worried your mom and I were? Do you? Dani, you promised. You promised you would take care of yourself! You are not going to be a delinquent. From this day on, I will be taking you and picking you up from school and I swear, if you don’t show up I will take you back to grandpa’s house. You hear me? Now go upstairs! I can’t stand seeing your face right now.” Leah screamed, her eyes flaring.

I took a deep breath and climbed up the stairs, entering my room then slamming the door shut.

I honestly had no idea why she thought she could act like my mother. She knew I was doing this for dad. Well, most of it anyway. Me ditching school had to do with the presence of Victor Green.

I couldn’t stand him and the thought of having him in my way was extremely frustrating. I knew I shouldn’t have told him who my dad was, but I was nowhere near patient and I was not going to let this year go by, acting like I was perfectly fine with the fact that the devil’s son was in my English class.

He earned me two detentions for God’s sake. Speaking of that, I hadn’t gone to my second detention yet and I was pretty sure by tomorrow, I would have a third one.

Let’s not forget the fact that I shot a police officer in front of many others this morning. Oh God, I was screwed. They knew who I was and soon enough, I’ll be pushed to the ground and publicly arrested. What was I supposed to do?

“Are you honestly still mad at me, Leah?” I asked, tumbling down the stairs.

I was in my pajamas and was longing for waffles and orange juice.

“Uh, yes? How could I not be mad at you? You’ve lost my trust, Dani.” She uttered, mixing a bowl of a mysterious substance.

I groaned and sat on the kitchen table, “Do you at least have something for me to eat?”

Leah sighed and stopped stirring, “Yeah. Aubrey called me and told me about your training. I made you eggs and bacon. Pour some milk into the jug, Mom has work today and I want her to go there on a full stomach.” She said, sounding so organized.

Leah was a better mom than…mom.

I poured some milk into the jug and then poured myself some orange juice in a glass, “Thanks.” I muttered as she handed me the plate.

“I got the job.” Leah spilled out of nowhere.

“What?” I asked, my mouth full.

“Swallow you idiot and I’ll tell you.” She answered, grinning.

I swallowed the bacon lying in my mouth and repeated my question.

“That interview I went for a couple days ago? Yeah, I got the job.” She squealed, excitedly.

“No way!” I exclaimed, getting up and attempting to do the gangnam style. Which, clearly failed.

Leah joined moments later and we ended up on the living room couch.
