You didn't know Clint was a superhero.

You thought he just liked being fit, and doing Archery.

You never knew he was an Avenger, saving the world.

A phone call changed all of that.

"Y/N!"

You cradled the phone between your shoulder and chin, so you could continue with the dishes.

Clint sounded panicky.

"I'm bringing a few people back, just don't freak out sweetheart, okay??"

You frowned, drying the last plate and putting it away.

"O-Okay." "When will you be here?"

"In a few minutes, just relax."

He hung up, and you spent those few minutes cleaning up the house, so everything was tidy.

Then, the front door burst open.

"Y/N??" "Baby I'm home!"

You took the stairs two at a time, until you reached the bottom floor.

"Clint!" You dodged past a burly man, jumping at your husband.

"Hey baby..."

You buried your head in his neck, ignoring the strange looks from the surrounding people.

"Guys, this is Y/N, my wife."

After hugging you for a good 10 seconds, he gently set you down on the floor, keeping one hand locked with yours.

"Um, hello."

The hallway was packed with people, ranging from a lithe, thin woman to a huge burly blonde man.

The first person to step forward, was the woman.

"I'm Natasha, Clint's work partner."

I gently took her hand, looking her up and down.

She was gorgeous, to say the least.

"Hey, I want a handshake from Bird Brains girl!"

A man slipped past the rest of the group, in a red and gold metal suit.

"I'm Tony Stark."

You had heard about him.

Sarcastic, Obnoxious, Volatile.

The list goes on.

"Don't even think about it Stark."

Clint pulled you away from the group, into the lounge, closing the doors behind him.

"Clint, you are telling me why there are strange people in our house, right now."

Your tone had become deadly, and Clint turned, obviously weary.

"Baby, it's going to come as a shock at first, but please, give me a chance."

You let him sit you down on the couch, taking a seat beside you.

"You know the group of heroes who saved New York a while ago?" "The Avengers?"

You nodded.

Clint was away in New York when that criminal Loki attacked New York.

Somehow, Clint was okay, and returned battered and bruised.

"Well, I'm one of them." "I'm Hawkeye, the man with the bow and arrow."

It all clicked into place.

He was always away, and whenever he was home, he did rigorous training and practicing with his Archery set in the barn.

"Y-You've been lying to me?" "For how long?"

He looked at the ground, ashamed.

"Since I was hired to work for SHIELD." "Five years ago."

It hit you like an brick, the air knocked out of you.

Five years.

You'd been married for two years.

He's been lying to you for five years.

"You- You lying coward!"

You screamed at him, hot tears running down your cheeks.

"You could have DIED, and left me alone!"

You were up from the couch and storming toward the lounge doors.

Ripping them open, Natasha looked towards you with a sad look.

"I know this must be tough for you."

I pushed past the lot of them, running out the open front door.

The first place that came to your head, was the lake.

Where Clint proposed to you.

You blindly ran through the forest, heading towards the hidden lake.

As soon as you burst out of the brush, you fell to your knees by the shore, sparking blue water looking welcoming.

You spent an hour beside the lake, watching small ripples cross the waters surface.

Shining silver fish dart around beneath the surface, eagerly awaiting any fallen food.

You were sitting atop a boulder, the sun soaking your shoulders.

Your knees were to your chest, H/C hair to one side.

"Y/N?"

Your tears had ended long ago, and you turned to the voice of your husband.

"Hi Clint."

He visibly sighed, probably in relief that you weren't mad at him anymore.

"I'm sorry I never told you baby, I just didn't want you to... To leave me."

You looked straight at him in shock.

"Why would I leave you because of it?"

A small smile appeared on his face.

"Well, being an Avenger, death is an occupational hazard, which I tend to avoid,"

He then shook his head.

"But I couldn't promise I would come home safe." "I didn't want you up late, worrying about me." "I didn't want to see you cry every time I left on a mission." "And it still kills me to know that I lied to you for so long."

You felt like crying again.

But you wouldn't.

"I would never leave you Clint." "And I never will."

You carefully slid down the Boulder, landing on your feet beside Clint.

"Pinkie Promise?"

You laughed, linking your pinkie finger with his.

"Pinkie Promise."

You went on your tippy toes to kiss his cheek, feeling him take one of your hands.

"Now, let's go home."
