Bryant POV
First day back at school, you gotta love it. Shelby and I walked down the road back towards my house; there was an awkward silence between us since she knew what I was thinking
"Bry, you know what you have to do" Shelby said with a sad look on her face
"I know..." I replied
"When are you going to do it?" She asked
"I... I don't know..." I mumbled back feeling tears pricking my eyes, I quickly wiped them away so Shelby wouldn't see but she could already tell I was beginning to cry
"Bryant I know you love him, he loves you t but... he's got to go back to his pod, his family" Shelby tried reasoning with me
"Alright... we'll take him back tonight just let me say good bye first" I sighed feeling my heart wrench in my chest, my feelings for that fish boy have grown so much over the past three months its crazy. I love him with all my heart but I know it's best for him to go back to where he belongs
"Oh shit..." I heard Shelby say, I looked up from my feet towards her
"What is it?" I asked, she pointed making me look to where she was pointing
"What the fuck?" I mumbled my eyes going wide. There where a bunch of vans and people standing around my house. I saw my mum standing in the crowd of people so I quickly ran over to her
"Mum what's going on?" I asked quickly feeling panic rise in my chest, she looked at me with a frown
"Well you have a bit of explaining to do" She frowned crossing her arms across her chest
"What are you talking about?" I asked hoping she didn't find him
"Your 'boyfriend' Chai is some sort of fish freak" I felt all the air leave my lungs as she said that
"What did you do to him" I frowned balling my fists
"He's going to where he belongs, the science lab and if he survives he'll be going to the aquarium" My mum replied turning away. I began to feel dizzy but before I fell down I felt Shelby grab my arms and sit me down
"Bry? Bry stay with me what did she say?!" Shelby asked snapping her fingers in front of my wide eyes
"H-He's... they're gonna test on him... he's gonna die Shelb!" I began panicking
"They found him?" Shelby asked with a soft voice, I nodded before I began sobbing my heart out into my hands
"Oh my god Bry" She whispered pulling me close letting me sob into her shoulder
"S-She found him... it's al-all my fault!" I sobbed feeling Shelby rub my back, normally should would have comforted me telling me everything was okay but it defiantly wasn't okay. I looked up and saw people in yellow suits... they where going to go and get him
"They're going in to get him... I gotta stop them" I said trying to get up but I felt Shelby pull me back down
"Bry you can't do anything, there are cops here" She said shaking her head, I felt more tears coming on making me lean back into her shoulder not wanting so see them drag Chai out. I knew they where going to knock him out since he's a 'freak'
"Bryant Novoa?" I heard someone say, I looked up and saw a police officer looking down at me. I wiped my eyes and let go of Shelby
"Yes?" I asked standing up
"We have a few questions we need to ask you" He replied making me sigh
"Sure" I replied plainly feeling completely numb, he took out a note pad and a pen from his pocket before looking me up and down
"Where did you find this creature?" he asked me
"I found him on the beach three months ago, he was hurt" I replied angrily
"Was there any others of the same species?" He asked
"No, just him... it was the day after a big storm" I replied thinking back to the time I first found him
He continued asking me questions for a while before he finally left me alone allowing me to sit back down again next to Shelby. She instantly put her arm around me and I lent into her side, I made the mistake of looking up and my breathing hitched. Two men where carrying Chai out of my room, one was holding under his arms and one was carrying his tail; he was out cold causing his head to go limp
"Don't look Bry" Shelby said pushing my head back to her shoulder allowing me to continue sobbing... what have I done?

I love Chai since he's adorable and I love merpeople but I also love Shelby, I think she's a really good friend :)
