          It’s my birthday 

    Naomi got me a cake—coffee, my favorite—and, when she lit the candles, I could just see that little bit of childish joy in her eyes.  It was beautiful, an innocence I’ve managed to lose.

          How is it possible for me to have lost so much?

          My voice.

          Mandy.

          Any chance of normality.

          But then again, while I pity myself, I guess you’ve lost something, too.

          Weight.
