I pulled my hair back into a ponytail as we walked the streets of Tokyo. It was the 1st of August and I had been here for several weeks. We walked into the nearest Dawai Sushi and sat down.

My phone started ringing. It was my mom.

"Hello?"

"Hey Alexis, how's it going there?"

"Pretty good like it was yesterday when you called."

She had a shakiness in her voice like something was wrong.

"Good, good."

There was a short pause before I spoke.

"Mom, is something wrong?"

"No, honey. Its just that .."

The waiter came and ordered for us as she paused, yet again.

"You're going to have to come back home early."

"Wait what do you mean? When?", I said, now my voice shaking. My eyes started tearing up and my hands were twitching.

"Tonight. The plane ticket is already paid for. I'll text you your flight information."

"But mom I thought I was staying."

"Yes I know. But we have to get ready for school and all. I'm sorry, sweetie."

I shook my head yes but my eyes held disbelief and remorse.

"Okay. I'll see you soon I guess."

"I love you honey."

My voice was now the shaky one.

"I love you too." I hung up the phone as our dish arrived, the waiter not seeming to notice my tears.

Alder looked into my eyes and I could tell he was asking what was wrong.

"I have to go home."

His eyes softened.

"When?", he said disappointingly.

"Tonight."

He replied a soft sigh and a small shake of his head.

Our meal was sat in silence as he held onto my hand tightly and I held on to his, using our opposing hands to eat our lunch.

I never wanted to let go.
