Chapter 3 ~ Flirting with the Enemy

Unknown POV

"Sir we have the documents you asked for." A man with a dark Brown buzz cut says as he sets a manila folder marked confidential down in front of a man in a black pin stripped suit sitting behind a massive oak desk. "It took us a while but we were able to narrow down her whereabouts."

"So this is where Coulson and Jenny hid you." The man says his voice deep and menacing as he reads through the documents. Suddenly a picture slips out and his eyes narrow as he sees a girl with (H/L) (H/C) hair standing alone in front of a grave. He runs his fingers over the face of the girl in the picture before a devilish smile fills his lips. "I see she took after her father."

"Yes sir," The subordinate with the buzz cut replies standing at attention awaiting his next orders.

"I want her, bring her home." The mysterious man orders then quickly adds, "On second thought, let's test her abilities. I'd love to see how strong she is." With a wave of his hand sends his subordinate away. He sets the picture of the girl down in the sleeve of his wife's photo frame. It was almost difficult to tell the two off them apart. Well they were mother and daughter. Even though the mother was now dead, thanks to her own negligence, he still hated the fact that she had been able to hide their child from him; if it hadn't been for the news brief about a mutant girl who murdered her attackers; he would never have found her.

He looks back to the documents and his eyes narrow as he sees where she attends school, Hero Academy. Gritting his teeth he stands from his desk and walking over to the window throws open the curtains with anger filling his body. He looks across the way at the so called Hero Academy and clenches his fists. She was in his own backyard. The thought alone made his anger rage as he grabs the nearest thing to him, which happened to be his desk, and throwing it across the room hears it crumble into kindling. Chest heaving angrily he glares at the school and says in a dark deep voice, "You thought you could hide her from me Coulson," He pauses as he gains his composure. "Soon, I will soon come to reclaim what is mine; and when the time comes; not even Fury will be able to help you."

Reader's POV

I stare at the giant iron letters of the gate to my new school as I wait for Steve. I hadn't had the pleasure of finding a club yet so at the moment I was the only one sitting at the fountain with her feet in the water. The cool feeling liquid made all the bad things suddenly disappear from my mind. Smiling I start to hum along to a song my mother used to sing to me when I was a child. I hadn't known her, she had died before I was able to fully picture her but one thing I did remember was her singing.

Her favorite song was also from her favorite movie, The Wizard of Oz's 'Somewhere over the Rainbow'. It had even turned out to be the movie I watched the most. Every time I watched it, I would get the feeling that she was there with me and I would relax. Forgetting where I am I start to sing the words out as I kick my feet back and forth.

"Somewhere over the rainbow way up high

There's a land that I heard of once in a lullaby

Somewhere over the rainbow skies are blue

And the dreams that you dare to dream really do come true."

"Do you always have a habit of leaving yourself open?" I hear a deep voice ask and I instantly snap toward it to see Winter leaning against the stone column holding the schools heavy gates up.

"Not that you really care; but no, I don't." I say as I pull my legs from the water and turning gently start to kick them dry.

"I apologized for earlier didn't I? Why must you be pissy?" He asks and I roll my eyes.
