"Adaline, you can't even be considering this!" Kane shouted in frustration from the confines of the kitchen. Charlie could hear his stomps as he paced around the room, only discontinuing his insufferable stamping to utter his contentment.
"This is not a negotiation, Kane," Adaline shot back in a hushed tone. The others had been banished to the basement like children while their "parents" had a grownup talk.
And, like children, they had disobeyed.
Charlie, Bentley, and Asher lingered in the hallway leading to the basement. No words were spoken amongst the three, they only listened. Charlie was doubtful at first, convinced Kane's power of persuasion would reflect onto Adaline.
Nonetheless, she stood her ground among the men.
Willow had disappeared to rummage through her suitcase in search of an outfit. She had no doubts in her mind that Adaline would agree to her deal. Alora was upstairs attempting, but no doubt failing, to convince Willow to call off the idea. Hayden forced Gemma to wait with her in the basement as if separating her from the case would cease her involvement completely.
"They are criminals and! -" Kane paused, deeply inhaling some much needed air. "And criminals lie," he matched her soft tone.
"You see all of the progress they've made?" Adaline questioned in a stern tone. "In less than a week they've managed to get us a lead, something we haven't had in months."
"They haven't made any progress. They just found a quicker way to rule out the suspects who were already ruled out. It's like copying answers off a projector and turning them into the teacher for credit. They put in minimal effort into a job that-"
"This is the closest thing we've had to finding Enzo in six months. I know it's risky and I get that things could go wrong but that is a risk we have to take." Kane groaned at her response.
"Jamison, you have to see-"
"Kane, I agree with her," Jamison interjected. "We have a lead and we don't need a warrant to investigate it."
"Come on-"
"This isn't a negotiation!" Adaline shouted, slamming a fist against the counter in frustration. "I think you're forgetting who's in charge here-"
"Ladies ladies, you're all beautiful!" Willow called from the top of the stairs. She descended down the steps in the tightest pair of jean shorts she owned. Asher broke from the pack to stand in the living room. Charlie followed after, waiting at the base of the staircase.
Standing next to Bentley in the hall made her skin crawl with disgust.
"This is a bad idea," Asher warned.
"Creating you was a bad idea," Willow murmured under her breath.
