i left the room a little while after you did
but to my surprise, you were still standing in the hallway.
i seemed to lurk behind you
but i didn't mean to follow you,
i hope you don't mind.
maybe we were both headed to the cafeteria for lunch.
you seemed shorter now that you stood in front of me.
my palms began to sweat at the thought
of being able to hold your small frame in my embrace one day.
we both knew i wasn't following you.
i never ate in the cafeteria with all the kids.
