"What If"

"What if" is an open doorway,

For what bejeweled castles can spring from "what if"!

What gilded monuments can rise from the imagination!

Such a plethora of tales

Come from the humble beginning, "what if".

And who am I to deny them their voices?

What a pity it would be

To leave such great glittering dragons unslain,

Or never even fought at all.

Who am I, to put myself before a story?

When so many stories lay themselves down before me

At the simple words, "what if".
