As a cool breeze brushed against his face, Godzilla opened his eyes to an unfamiliar view. He stumbled, realizing he was standing up. He had been asleep a few hours ago. Instead of looking up at the roof of the tent he now shared with Mothra, he saw the city of Tokyo. It was still late at night, and he could see street lights and things below him. He realized he was standing on top of a building.
"How did I end up here?" He asked himself. He remembered the nightmare he had just woken up from. It was strange; in it, he ran through a distorted city filled with strange colours which seemed to be both bright and dark at the same time. He wasn't sure why he was running, until he realized that something was chasing him. A black formless mass was barrelling after him. It was gaining on him. Eventually, the mass caught up to him, and a group of tendrils shot out. They wrapped around Godzilla's arms. The mass began to drag Godzilla into itself. As Godzilla touched the mass, he began to go numb. Half his body lost feeling as he was absorbed into the mass. After he was fully absorbed, he woke up. After thinking about this, he blinked a few times. He didn't feel tired. Strangely enough, he felt good. Really good. He noticed that there was a small closer on the roof of the building, most likely to keep janitor supplies in. There was a window on the side. Godzilla eyed his reflection in the window, and saw something strange; his jacket had changed colour. Rather than a mix of dark greens, it was mostly jet black. The hood and sleeve trim were white, along with two straight horizontal stripes going across the waist. The training tape wrapped around his abdomen retained it's white colour, but the tape on his arms were also black.
"Where did I get this?" Godzilla thought. He clenched his fists a few times. Whatever this outfit was, it was giving him power. He felt the need to test it out. He ran from one part of the roof to the edge, and jumped. He was easily able to jump across the gap and land on another building. That was higher and farther than Godzilla had ever jumped before.
"No way..." He muttered, smirking. He preformed the same action, this time landing on a building which was twice as far as the first one. His eyes were wide with excitement, and darted around for another way to test his abilities. Before he had the chance, he heard something land behind him. Before he could think about what had made the sound, he heard a voice.
"Whoa. Godzilla, is that you?" The voice asked. Whoever was speaking chuckled lightly as he spoke. "Did you change your outfit or something? I like it."
Godzilla spun around and saw none other than Gigan standing behind him with crossed arms and a cocky half-smile. Godzilla's mood went from excitement to annoyance.
"What are you doing here?" He snapped.
"Ghidorah sent me to patrol Tokyo and see if anything's up." Gigan replied, putting his hands behind his head. "Looks like it won't be a total waste of time if I get to kill you."
Godzilla got into a battle stance. He cursed himself, realizing he didn't have his katana with him. However, as he thought about this, he felt something appear in his hand. Looking down at his hand, he found a new katana, just like his own, though with different colours. The blade was a dark grey, almost black. The handle was black with white wrap. He eyed the katana, confused. Gigan seemed confused as well.
"...Were you holding that before?" He asked.
"No..." Godzilla mentioned. "It just kind of showed up."
"Whatever, I don't care." Gigan shrugged. "Let's just fight already."
Godzilla agreed. He smirked, realizing he could test his powers this way. He swung the new katana around in his hand, and then rushed foreword. This caught Gigan slightly off guard, but he managed to block by turning his arm into a blade. He swung back with his other arm, but Godzilla dodged the attack. Gigan still had a plan. He shot two cabled out of his wrist, which hooked into Godzilla's skin. Just as Godzilla realized what was going on, Gigan sent a powerful electrical current through the cables. Godzilla flinched, bracing himself for the electrocution, but it didn't come. The electricity was somehow being absorbed by his new outfit. Taking advantage of this, Godzilla grabbed the cables and ripped them out, much to Gigan's surprise.
"Wait, how did you..." He began to ask. He was interrupted when Godzilla swung the cables around, dragging Gigan along with them. Finally, Godzilla let go of the cables, tossing Gigan away. Gigan quickly braced himself as he flew through a window of another building. He landed in a sort of office and rolled as he hit the floor. He hissed in pain as he got up, brushing off some of the rubble and broken glass that accumulated on his jacket.
"How was he able to do that?" He muttered.
Right as he said this, Godzilla burst through another window. He rolled once and landed on his feet, unaffected by the impact from the window. Gigan's eyes widened. He couldn't lie; he was impressed by Godzilla's new skills.
"Not bad." He said, smirking and nodding at Godzilla. "But not too great either."
Godzilla snapped his head to look in Gigan's direction, and Gigan could see his furious expression. Godzilla shot an arm out at him, and to Gigan's surprise, a black tentacle shot out and grabbed him. The tentacle pulled him toward Godzilla, holding him in place. Godzilla was just as surprised as Gigan. The sleeve of his jacket had morphed over his arm and hand, forming a black tentacle that was currently wrapped around Gigan. Before either could say anything, Godzilla felt himself moving again, but not of his own accord. The tentacled holding Gigan smashed him into the walls, ceiling, and floor multiple times over and over. It was not Godzilla doing this. Finally, he regained control and dropped Gigan as the tentacle morphed back into his arm. He stared at his hand in disbelief.
"Damn, what the hell was that?" Gigan groaned and coughed.
"I don't know..." Godzilla began. Suddenly, he got a really bad headache. His outfit began to move by itself. The sleeves morphed over his arms, ending in long white claws on his hands. The rest of his jacket morphed and changed as well, covering his chest. A white symbol shaped like a large angular spider appeared on his chest, bleeding in from the white stripes on his jacket. The headache got worse, and Godzilla grasp the sides of his head with his new claws. He instinctively pulled his hood down over his head, hoping in vain that the pain would stop. Gigan had seen enough. He morphed his hands into blades and gritted his teeth.
"Alright, I don't know what's going on," he growled, trying to hide his fear and confusion, "but I'm about to end it." He rushed at Godzilla, who was currently facing away from him, crouched over and clutching his head in pain. As Gigan approached, he raised an arm blade and prepared to strike. Before he could, however, Godzilla suddenly spun around and caught his arm. Gigan froze as he got a good look at Godzilla's face. It had changed. Some sort of mask had formed over his face, covered by his hood. The mask was black with long white eyes with raged edges. The most terrifying thing was the mouth that had formed along with the mask. It was massive and full of sharp rows of white teeth, along with a long snake-like tongue. He let out an inhuman growl. Gigan simply stared in shock, until Godzilla (though Gigan was pretty sure this wasn't Godzilla any more) let out a loud roar directly into his face. For the first time in many years, Gigan was truly afraid. He pulled his arm free from Godzilla's grip and stumbled back, but ended up tripping and falling on his back. He looked up at the creature that was once Godzilla and let out a surprisingly girlish scream. At that moment, Godzilla managed to regain control of his body. He toppled over onto his hands and knees as the black material receded back into his jacket. He breathed heavily as he gripped the carpeted floor below him, coughing and gripping his throat as he felt the strain on his throat caused by the roar. He stared at his hand again with wide eyes, finding that the claw was gone and his regular hand was back. He breathed a sigh of relief. As he looked up, he saw the terrified Gigan cowering on the floor.
"Get out now." Godzilla ordered. Gigan didn't need to be told twice. Without another word, he jumped up and ran, taking out a communicator. He entered the stairwell and sped to the roof, calling for Biolante to pick him up in an escape pod. Godzilla stood up. He looked at his jacket, and his brows furrowed.
"What are you?" He muttered. There was no doubt in his mind that this thing was alive.
